Bought a quick change today, intended on using it in a model a coupe but this thing is huge.I also have a 66 chevelle that I could use it in.Can I get different axle tubes and axles with a different bolt pattern, dont know much about it other than it looks bigger than the ones I see on here.It is a Halibrand (cover has number h310)and I think I bought it right, should I unload and get a 9 inch.anybody running one of these in their car. thanks Todd 105_0293.jpg

  2. It is a Champ. Based on Ford and Studebaker 3/4 ton truck axles. Very strong. You need to open it up and see what kind of differential it has. Most likely a spool. The brakes and hubs are racing parts and the bolt pattern is "wide five" 36-39 Ford. The axle housings are massive and do not look "quite right" to my eye under a Model A or 32 Ford. Even so, a lot of people run them.

They always look smaller until you get one in your hands. Several companies make parts and Components for these. Check out the Winters site or Speedway. You can run a 3 inch od axel tube with Ford Torino style ends and change over to Ford type splined axels and lug pattern. They are very simple to work on. I'd say pull it apart. If it was run on a track it'll probably still have a spool in it. I picked up a 31 spline Posi unit off Ebay for $150.00. Parts are plentyful and there was recently a good Tech rebuild thread on the HAMB.

Oh yeah, I'm running one in a 49 Cad Sedanette. Just for kicks!

  4. You can still get everything you need, new axle's with your choice of bolt pattern, tubes and everything you need to change the quick change to what you need. Dont get rid of it, that thing will be killer under your A!
    Doc.

LOL ,thats really funny. It's a small world on the internet. Thats a damn nice rear end and it shouldn't go to some FNG who doesn't even know what it is anyway. I'd be a little pissed too.

I totally agree! Tom Brown, if the people you already have making offers don't pan out, please send me a PM.

    Hey Todd,

The internet is a very small place which makes the world even smaller.....................I think
you "screwed the pooch" on this one.
Here is a picture of what it would look like under your A assuming it's a highboy.
You just need to take the thing apart, take the axles out/take the tubes out/put new tubes
in with big Ford ends, 56"/57" width would be good.................if you are going to run a spool on the street you had better put a full cage and 5 point harness in the car though.

    IMHO

Wow now that is harsh show the boy what he could have had? I am sure Tod just typed before he thought something a lot of us have been or will be guilty of? None the less I can sympathize with Tom I just hope when he cools off he doesn't loose a good friend.
