Well I figured its about time I start a build thread here. I Love looking at the progress others are making with their projects so I figured I would share mine as well. So here it is..

The tank I am using is a HellCat aluminum tank. The power plant will be a 1929 Ford Model A flathead (V4F / GL). I built the frame using 2X3 .120 wall box tube, all the welds are tig. The front end will be a Model A I-beam axle and the rear will be a Halibrand 301 with early Ford side bell adaptors. I really hope to have it done for 2010 Speed Week, but time is very much against me. My goal for this year is not to set a record, but to join the Hop Up 100mph club. Well here are a few pics let me know what you think. I will post more pics are my progress continues.

Did anybody think V4F would take off like it did? This is a really popular cl*** and lots of fun. Thanks everyone who did for pushing it through.

  6. Nice tank project. I have a buddy locally that is building one too. I like your frame design. Simple yet refined. WHats the width of that tank.
    Good luck

At the widest point the tank is 32". I may be wrong but I believe it is the same tank as the Old Crow Lakester.

PLEASE............ post some more about this build. I'm sure everyone would like to see how you developed your buck and went about shaping the panels. What will power this one?

Ok well I havent posted any new updates in awhile so I figure its about time. I have had the last month off from work so I got a fair amount done on the project.

I had set a few goals for myself in the beginning of Jan. The first and biggest one was to complete the roll cage. I spent hours looking over pictures and doing reasearch before I started bending. I was pretty worried before I started. I have never really built a cage for anything before, mostly just bumpers and hoops for offroad trucks. But once I got into it, it went very smooth and with very little mistakes. Some people that are fimiliar with SCTA rules will see a big problem right off the bat (the front hoop isnt at 120 degrees). I am aware of it and am in the process of coming up with a solution.

The rear end brought around another problem. Since I am using a 301 Halibrand case, wich is much bigger than a V8, I had alittle space issue. My solution, Cut away the tank till it fits!!

Well here are a few pictures of where I am at now with the project.

Oh, you might also notice that the tank is hitting the ground! haha it seems that I might have made a slight miscalculation on the correct tire size! This will be fixed very soon.

    Few more.

I have a question. the front axle seems to be on the bump stops in the pics. is this how it will ride? I have never been to Bonneville (yet) so to some this may seem like a stupid question, but is it better to have no suspension travel? or is it just the pictures making it look like there is no travel?

No you are correct. The front bump stops are adjustable. I would like the axle to ride on them when the car is at full speed and making down force. I have never been to Bonneville either but my thinking behind the stops is, I dont want the car to be "floating" through the suspention travel when it is up to speed. I think if it did it would make for a sloppy ride. I might be crazy for thinking this but if it doesnt work I can just cut them off.
