156.42mph at california speedway in a V8 based indy car that was supposed to be limited at 145mph Bless those high turns and drafting. 120mph in my 61 Continental on the 10 freeway.
[ QUOTE ] z man when did you last run atlanta? i raced with wera for a bunch of years. ever ride a tz 700? oh yea goin fast, full tilt gsxr 1100, george bryce (star racing) head, pops yosh cams an rotating assy, 40mm mic flats, tall gears frog tires, pocono radar 176.4 [/ QUOTE ] Haven't run it since they did the re-design. So it's been 5 or 6 years. Haven't run one of the big TZ's but have ridden a few Kawasaki H2 vintage racers, brutal powerband, horrible handling, not real fun for me. I actually went to the slower twins classes after a while since I trust myself at speed but not some yahoon that thinks he's the next Shwantz, Rainey or whoever. Been down more than a few times at over a ton, the messed up thing is it does get easier...
In the F-1 a few years ago, after a "Great White" concert. Raced/ a hi-tech? Mercedes on I-5. No stop on a F-1 speed-O, went all around to 25mph and the Merc blinked his lites and gave up. Had 2.73 gears,29 in tires at 5700 RPM. Somebody do the math. I remember the wind quit makin noise..........OLDBEET
i ran atlanta in april 90 last i ran anywhere. i still have chambers an a dunstall kit for a kaw h2! been down at atlanta a few times myself!
168 in a 69 chrysler newport 440hp with 2.73 rears, and only 152 in the 57 chevy step side until I blew up the cluster gear in the tranny. It had more but the trans didn't.. Jonney
A couple of years ago we took my '53 Lincoln two door hardtop to Paso Robles. It turned 500 miles on the rebuilt 317 yblock engine, so I figured time to open it up. We had a trunk full of beer and food and four guys in the car. the speedo goes to 120 and we kept going for another few minutes so I figure it was at least 140 with plenty of pedal to go, but we were on a two lane highway and that was fast enough for me. The funniest part was the guys in the back seat said the wind in their face was horrible but they couldn't talk cuz the wind took the breath as soon as they opened their mouth.
HHHmmm 128 in the quarter mile in my old '64 super gas Nova in the mid 1970s. Radar gunned at 136 in my 1968 427 Corvette between Tonopah and Beatty Nevada one night October of 1970, That one cost me 2 nights in jail and my license for 6 months, I wouldn't stop for the Highway patrolman that clocked me, so they roadblocked me in at Beatty. Ahhh those were the days, now I'm the slo old fart in the middle lane.
Well, my Chevy II hits 125 in the 1/4, at about 5700 rpm, and I've had it to 7000 rpm! my 92 s-10 blazer's all done at 117mph Also, 156mph on the back of a '84 V65 Magna
I flew a fighter jet but nothing compares to a low pass... 15 feet above the deck around 350 mph in a P-51 Mustang, and aerobatics in a Pitts S2B! That was the most thrilling thing I've done and more fun than the high speed runs I've ever had done...!
i don't have a speed-o-meter if i did it would never get over the legal speed limit. i have never broken the law in an automobile,or on a motorcycle.
Ran the Silver State Challenge 3 times...so far. Clocked at 165 for 6 solid minutes each time Only won it twice. It's what I'm building my 65 GTO to do with the 601ci engine. The previous races were run in a 72 Z28 with a 350ci/6-speed and a 3.08 gear. The GTO should be faster. The guy I ran it with is also building a better car for the Silver State...his is a new CTS-V Caddy with a twin-turbo LS1. It's addictive once you clear 150 for awhile. "Speed Drunk" they call it. With the right car, on the right road, in the right event, with the right equipment, it almost feels safe. Scotch~!
I've been faster but the scariest was in a 1973 Mercury Marquis. It was somewhere around 85MPH. It was only scary because we had no seatbelts and had lost control on ice while trying to pass a friend in a damned honda. The car executed multiple complete 360's down a two lane road while the driver completely let go of the steering wheel and grabbed me instead, screaming "We're going to crash! Oh my God, we're going to crash!". Turns out she was right. It took a while though. We managed three complete revolutions without leaving the road but when we finally did leave the road, we did ALOT of damage. We sent one mailbox three yards (And I mean three physical addresses, not nine feet), we completely destroyed two brick driveway entrances, several bushes and finally dug it into the mud which stopped the car quickly enough to toss us both from the car, leaving us coated in mud and our shorts in something that looked like mud, but otherwise relatively intact. To it's credit, the car did still run but only three wheels could touch the ground at the same time after that so she didn't drive it again. I've been faster in cars on many occassions, but this is the fastest I have ever gone while pooping myself.
130 in a 72 vette up 95 heading north 125 with my 1980 z28 115 in a 454 ss chevy pu 411 gears that was as far as i wanted to push it
I think I cruised at about 425 in a D-C 9 on a flight from Milwaukee, to Boston for St. Patricks day....
57MPH on a Tandem Mountain Bike (2 seater, I was steering)in the middle of the Chequamegon 50 miler on a gravel logging road. Drifted from the inside to the outside before using the windrowed gravel as a "berm" to keep us from kissing a tree.
200 (KPH,)... about 124 MPH... in a new rental BMW525 on the Autobahn out of Munich...with some traffic signaling for me to move over to the slower lane. In 1985.
I went 200 mph in 1980 with a Buick V-6 in a belly tank at Bonniville. I don't have to tell tall tales.
I recall being a bit too busy to closely examine the speedo but I remember it was in the low 140s in a '69 Dodge Charger, 383 Mag, 727, and 3.23 gears with a 150 speedo. Great ride and it would have done some more but we started to take too much air under the front and it got too light for me to want to continue. It seems there are a lot of us that got our best speeds with BB Chryslers. They do rock, don't they? Yeeha!
[ QUOTE ] I went 200 mph in 1980 with a Buick V-6 in a belly tank at Bonniville. I don't have to tell tall tales. [/ QUOTE ] That's cool. That plaque right there is my new goal. I'm gona build a bike that'll run 200mph some time next year. Fastest in a car was my '95 Cadillac Fleetwood. With a mild tune ont the stock LT1 and the governer programed out it did 147mph on the FL turnpike outside Orlando. My TL1000R topped out at 175mph in 6th. Did that a couple times just for giggles
The 'Hellcamino' ran 125 in the quarter... whilst making holes in pistons. Shoulda ran 10.70s at 129-130ish. (1.50 60 foot) Drove it to the track (1 hour each way) Same car... returning from the Power Tour with some of my AOD streetrod friends... had the shiftlight on for a few minutes... with a 6200 rpm pill. Not too fast, maybe 105-110, but the quickest way to eat valvesprings... using 3.73 gears. Same car, trying to catch up after a piss break... 5800 pill... 2.42 gears. No idea what that comes out to! Oh, had I been pulled over, the officer would have noticed the 2 stocked coolers and 4 unopened cases of beer in the bed. Stupid.
I drove my Galaxie 15mph down sunset the other night, it was crazy, I don't think i'd do it again. I was lucky not to have wrecked. Im living on the edge L
- indicated 126, '57 Olds - calculated 129, '63 Lotus Super 7 - indicated 115, '56 Mercedes 300SL (rock steady) - indicated 110, '65 Pontiac GTO (squirelly!) - indicated 100+, '51 Ford - indicated 100+, '99 Ford Lightning The SL inspired the most confidence over 100; the GTO the least -- changed lanes without any input from me.
This chick in a mustang cut off my dad while he was drivin his 72 pickup thats got a 327 in it. Hit 125 in that POS but slowed. The motor still wanted to rev more. The motor aint that great either
[ QUOTE ] 32 ford roadster,,,,I-85,,,between Charlotte North Carolina and Greenville,South Carolina,,,,,,,,, HRP [/ QUOTE ] Are those the proverbial white knuckles?
Once I was with my best friend in his 70 Z28 and we got in a race with another buddy in his 70 427 Impala. We ran about 30 miles of interstate flat out in the Z rocking right on a buck forty most of the time. The Impala was just playing with us. It was a 4 speed car with like a 2.90 gear and would do 160 pretty easy, according to his calculations on the rpms. Also had another buddy with a 68 Roadrunner that would do 150 on the speedo. I buryed the peg on a lot of 120 mph speedo's but couldn't swear how fast it really was. My old shovelhead used to run 118-120 flat out and the last snowmobile I had (2000 Polaris 600) I could get 118, but we radared it at 122 in a race with it slammed.
