186 on a 1994 GSXR 1100 telephone poles blur and red lights that are a 1/2 mile away come up on ya fast !!!
182 on a 929 !!!! When you hit 150 every thing just smooths out no wind noise no nothing you almost wait for that big BOOM and a flash like back to the future !!! I still have the bike but dont think I will ever do it again, I am a responsable parent again !!! LOL , Danny
'62 Impala- 110 the whole way to Paint n' Pistons (thanks to Outlaw, Eddie, and their lack of speedos ) '92 Beretta v6-140 many, many times '94 Corrola- 140 at which time some jackass in another lane cut into mine. I locked the brakes, hit the divider, rolled and slid across four lanes of traffic to the feeder. walked away and no one was hurt except the car damn I was a stupid teenager!
I'm going to guess that almost 1/2 of these stories are true. But in the minds of the tellers there isn't a thing that isn't fact. Must be something about being 60 years old and racing for over 40 years that creates a small amount of doubt when hearing some tales. Carry on men. Frank
Dunno. I took my dad's Sebring down a hill on 580 towards Stockton, and the rev limiter kicked it down before I could get past 130.
196 km/h (122 mph i think) 11.09 on the 1/4 mile on my first and only race (so far) in my brothers -62 Anglia with turbocharged german ford V6...
I hit 143 once in a 95 Caprice chasing down a guy doing 125 on Route 66. Back when I still worked the streets every day I would hit 110 probably 5-6 times a day. Speed never was much of a thrill for me after that unless it is in the corners!
my brother was driving my other brother's stock '60 impala 283 pg...we were movin pretty good at 110 and still climbing...we slowed due to traffic
80+ (Speedo don't work)........ Is that it you say?? Try it in a 4 Banger model A on 3 inch wide 19's and mechanical brakes..... I was racing a *cough* Beetle at the time......
I was racing a c4 corvette in my built '85 mustang, the stang speedo only read to 85, but we estimated that we got up to about 140. The fastest I've ever been was an indicated 170 on a 2001 zx9r...
I agree Frank, at least my is believable and was TRULY a white knuckle ride. Legal I might add since it was in a race, the rest of you are HOODLUMS!!!!!!!
143 mph indicated on a 1979 Yamaha XS1100 in Verde Valley AZ in 1980. 134 mph in a 69 Camaro at Firebird drag strip in AZ , that was in 1984. 130 mph indicated on a 2004 Honda Goldwing. 57 mph in a 1951 Crosley wagon 74 mph in a 1961 Morris Minor 1000
The "Fastest" I ever felt was 85 in a VW Bug. Scary shit. Pegged the speedo in a 73 Electra 225. It went airborne after going over a rise in the road. DAD: "What are these gouges in the crossmember?" 135 racing two 84-85 'Vettes and a Saab 900 Turbo into Cleveland on I-90. No speedo on the Hardtail but I was loosing my grip so I let up. Blew by my buddies Honda at 85 in second gear and pulled it hard right into fourth.

[/ QUOTE ] I have to agree. 125 in a full on Nascar racer...no sweat. . Entering a high bank oval at 75 in a stock buggy sprung 32 coupe will make the hair on your neck stand up. My buddy wasn't scared riding in the rumble seat on the first trip. the second trip he rode up with me and was scared shitless. I have a lot more respect for those old roadster racers in those black and white photos!
[ QUOTE ] In the F-1 a few years ago, after a "Great White" concert. Raced/ a hi-tech? Mercedes on I-5. No stop on a F-1 speed-O, went all around to 25mph and the Merc blinked his lites and gave up. Had 2.73 gears,29 in tires at 5700 RPM. Somebody do the math. I remember the wind quit makin noise..........OLDBEET [/ QUOTE ] I have you at 180!
Here's late 80's....... 8.50's @ 167.... This one crashed and died when she kicked a rod @ the big end...... Spoons
132 in a turbo eagle talon on two occasions. Both times it was out running new mustangs. It's been several years ago but i think the mustangs might have been speed limited to 120,the front end of the eagle got real light a 132 or i would have tried for more.It had a 160 mph speedo in it.
i bought an ex-dallas police cruiser a few years back. 91 caprice with a throttle body 350. me and some buds were heading to the beer store on hwy 59 between carthage, and marshall, texas. the car had a "certified" digital speedo. shifted into overdrive at 121, and i let up at 162. the thing was riding on air. smooth as glass. and this was with 4 people and a dog. a few months later, i was headed back home from a party towards longview on hwy 124. we were doing 120 at about 4:00 in the morning when i came upon another car. we sucked him up quick, too quick. it was a ponola county sheriff. unbelieveably, he moved onto the shoulder and let us go by, he never even gave chase. i guess the antennas, dps wheels, and black tint fooled him. we laughed all the way home.
161 in a 92 mustang notchback set up for roadracing but was my daily driver...repeatedly did about 135 in the mornings on the way to work....had way to much fun with that car..sold it to a friend...who then piled it into a tree doing about 100 around a curve drunk....
[ QUOTE ] I have a lot more respect for those old roadster racers in those black and white photos! [/ QUOTE ] I agree to do well over a hundred miles per hour in a jalopy of a roadster with questionable tyres across a dusty dry lake. Thats real speed......
About 95 in my 70 Rebel frontend got lite didn't like that at all.122 in a 91 mustang felt just like 22.Wish i still had the rebel
145 in my 2001 Trans Am with a few little tricks. I had just shifted in to 5th (still had 6th left) when I started to run out of road, the car was still pulling. The launch of that car almost cost my good friend Chucklehead_Al his dinner one night. I have gotten my '56 Olds up to 90!!!!!
Just for shits-n-giggles, I stuck a 10 bolt rear with 2.56 in my hot rod camaro (Edelbrock RPM 350 package) and it was scary fast. According to one of those on-line mph calculators, I hit about 170. .....way too fast for the tires I had on it
140 in a 2000 Ford Police Interceptor (just bought a month ago) 130 in a 1989 Buick Reatta (just sold it today) 85 on a 2002 Yamaha Raptor 4 wheeler on a long gravel road. 125 in a 1977 Pontiac Bonneville 4 door 99 in a 1996 GMC Z71 (raced my friends 1999, looked like two slot cars going down the road because the governors kept kicking in)
