Last night I quickly laid out some scallops on the Cadillac. Suprisingly they look pretty good. What do you guys think? Scallops or no scallops? Does anyone have any pics of 50's Caddy's with scallops so I can get an idea of how they would look? Keep in mind by spring this car will be bagged and laying frame and I will be repainting the car black. What color should i do the scallops? I was thinking red with a white pinstripe around the edges.

That car is perfect in the stock form, you must be bored with it, could be time to sell. Opinions are like noses...

I like the scallops, but you should re-tape the low one that goes across the fender/door. Make sure that top line is perfectly parallel to the chrome, or it will look funky.

I vote no, would look classy painted one solid color when laying frame.

I like the headlight and bottom fender/door. Not too crazy about the hood or quarter panel. I vote no...but what do I know?

I like the scallops but they are too big. Really thin them out and make them way more subtle then you will have something!

  8. I agree with wicked, thinner is better on the Caddy...kinda Watson-style. If you do them in paint, I'd think gold with maroon pin outline and a couple maroon tidbit pinstripe designs (stay conservative!)

  9. With a Caddy, you have to go elegant and classy, or complely over the top nuts... There is no in between.

If you want to do scallops, there will have to be done in something wacky, Leopard or zebra skin pattern, Huge bass-boat metalflake, (I'd say polkadots, but somebody might take it serious, although on a girls car, it might work), etc. buit then you are getting into Rockasilly stuff.

Some subtle pinstripes would be good, but your time would be better spent at work getting some overtime $$ to get some of the chrome replated, unless it's just dirty, new paint and old chrome, eh...

  10. I'd leave it alone.

  12. The hood scallop should run down to the hood bar around the emblems,

Also you should make them magnetic so yo can take them off incase everybody else hates them.... ( Go vinel, not paint ) in case you change your mind)

I'm up in the air on this one...however, if you'd use 1/8" tape, you'd get a better idea of the overall look...3/4" tape is overpowering...

IMHO, a Caddy needs to have finesse, class...red scallops on the blak is way over the top...you might try pinstriping them in color if you insist on scallops...

A another vote for no. A bagged "more door", would be killer just mono color and makes it what it is... a clean simple 4 door custom that's rocking bottom. Adding the pizzazz of scallops to a "more door" is a bit overkill and (in my opinion) tries to make it something that it is not.
It's a Caddy. That's cool enough. However, Think Classy, subtle touches if you go ahead with scallops. Remember, sometimes less is more.
Keep the car black, maybe an off white pinstripe of scallops on the sides going along with the trim, leave the hood and roof alone.

It's a Caddy. They demand attention without beggin for it. No need unless it's something you really want. If so, do it...

    I think no scallops

  20. Cadillacs don't need scallops, they're suppose to be classy cars....unless you're planning on making it "Rock-a-riffic", in which case, go for it.

Why sell it? You can always change something up a little if you're bored, always resparks your interest. Sellings not always the answer.

I say lay out a couple of designs, take photos for reference, then go with what you'd like best. None of us own your car,so it doesn't matter what we say. Are you building this car for you or everyone else?

I agree with the thinner tape. It will give you a way better idea of how it will turn out. I started a thread a week or two ago about scallops, flames and pin striping. You might get some ideas there. I say the more scallops the better!!! here's a pic of some quick lay out using the 1/8 inch tape as mentioned above.
