PITA Tire Kicker Excuses

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ChevyGasser Madness, Dec 31, 2009.

  1. It so typical, you have something for sale, you take the time to talk, explain, show pictures, test drive, and people leave you hanging with excuses. The classics are, "I'll get back to you tomorrow", "I'll run it by my wife", .... etc. Sometimes you wonder if they left their jewels at home. Anybody got any good one's to post?:D

  2. im waiting on my loan to be approved!

let me run this by my parole officer!

Well I don't have the money right now but I am selling something to a buddy so if he buys it , I will come back to buy your . If not maybe it will be around still for sale when I get my "Income Tax" check back !

    I don't waist people time . If I am looking , I tell them .
If I am very interested , the wife will be with me .

Just remember people like that are just plain everyday stupid assholes that have nothing better to do with their shitty lives but to bother real people trying to sell something !

    Happy New Year !

I've realized no matter what I try to sell someone tries to trade me a 4-wheeler.
Then theres the people who show up and are in love with whatever it is, agree on a price and then tell you they'll give you payments.

  12. worst trade offer i got for my jag was a 90 Toyota corolla... in hindsight i shoulda taken it... my buddy has 172k ish on his and hasn't had a problem other than CV shafts lol

I recently bought a newer DD truck so I had to sell my trusty old Mazda. I listed it on Craigslist at a low price for a quick sale and got a call on the first day. Some lady called and asked if I'd like to trade. I'm not much of a trade guy, but you never know when someone's got a '32 3-window body they wanta trade, so I asked, "what do you have to trade?"
"Do you know what a 215 card is?" she asked.
"Yes, I do and no thanks"
For those who don't know, a 215 card is basically a free pass to grow dope for fun and profit under the thin disguise of medicinal purposes.
I would've given anything to be a cop right then and asked for her address and stopped by in a black and white just to see them scramble...

How about the alternative. The truth.
"This is the most raggedy, rusty, heinous, misrepresented, overpriced piece of shit ever and I can hardly wait to get out of site, puke, then call all my buddies and laugh at your dumb ass.

I got lots of stupid trade offers when my gasser was for sale. 2 sandrails, daily drivers, but my favorite was a "real nice rat rod". Isn't that an oxymoron?

"I'll get back to you tomorrow" is code for "That pile of crap isnt at all what I was expecting to see based on your ad".

  18. How about the other side of the coin, you go to look at this pristine 32 3w and their is nothing left but the top 2ft of the car and the guy tells you on the phone it is the cats meow before you drive 60 miles to look at it. POW right in the kisser!!

I don't really want to buy it but I like to go look at cars that are for sale.

Also: It's too damned over priced for what it is and will you offer a decent price before I leave?

  20. I had a running cb360 project for sale. I wanted $300 for, that's it! So many people called and came by and wanted it, truly did, but could not come up with $300! WTF are you doing trying to buy a project if you can't scratch together $300!!!

The one thing that pisses me off more than anything are the ones who come to look at a decent ride or project you are selling and have described honestly and they feel the door is opened to say anything to run it down to try to get you to lower the price. Had a 47 Poncho slope backed 2 door. Had one rust hole in the front fender, original black paint not running but all there and very solid. Asked 3K. Guy comes up and by the time he gets done running it down you would think it was scrap. After 30 minutes he offers $250.00. I told him that after listening to him waste a half hour of my life I felt I had earned the right to tell him to "Kiss my ass" . Later I sell a car to one of his friends who told me the guy had said I was hard to deal with...lol. Go Figure!

  22. Despite all the transparent bullgrap you hear it is all part of the process of selling. I've found that a good car or part for a fair price will sell and usually to the matched buyer. I don't sell junk or buy it to make a profit of off some unknowing car guy. If I feel that someone will not be happy with what they came for I will steer them away from the sale. Honesty and integrity go a long way! Happy New Year to all.:)

  23. It also is code for "I'm too squeaky with my cash to step up to the plate". I've never misrepresented anything I have had for sale, I don't own junk and do not sell it!:p:)

Something in the ad misled them, now they are leaving to look for something worth consideration.

i have to wait for my incometax check.
i have to wait for the check to clear

  27. It comes with the territory.

As long as people are selling-there will be people (dead beats) who make excuses not to buy.
On the flip side as a buyer-when I take the time to see it in person (after from what they told me, I was still interested in, after me asking many very direct questions), and then it turned out to be far from the description! I let them know that, they completely mis-represented the car, and that I was pissed they waisted my time! I tell them, next time you describe your car-be honest, it isn't like it isn't going to be obvious anyway once the buyer shows up!

Again, it comes with the territory.

  28. I had an old bug project that only needed floorpans.... this guy comes by and says... " if I weld in the floors can I trade that labour for the car...?"... now, I know some may be saying " no way... " etc etc... but, it happened, now I'm a prick when it comes to setting up anything to sell.. and I rarely sell anything now, just trade it off to other car guys for something I need... I was dumbfounded, I had the urge to laugh in his face or deck him, so I just asked him to leave and walked away... left him standing there.

After a zillion anal questions on this:

    All steel....check
    No patch panels...check
    All original floors....check
Accident damage?...no evidence of any ever
    No rust through anywhere....check
    Runs, drives....check

Measure how far the doors stand proud of the cowl for me would ya?

    0.312" and 0.341".

"Door bottoms stick out too far":confused::confused:

I've found that for every 20 cars you'll look at for sale ,,there will be only 1 that is "as described".
    It's a 2 edged sword.
Every year these old project cars get rougher and more expensive,,,that makes the game harder. The art of buyin' and sellin' the turds.
I go overboard describing the faults of a car,,and I run off potential Buyers but I wouldn't want to be misled either.
I usually say that I'll be looking at 3 cars in the area and when is a good time to see it. That gives me some wiggle room if it ends up a dreamer and his beloved overpriced turd.
