Sunbrella did a serape pattern that I used in my roadster. It's water repellant, and unlike a real serape, it doesn't smell like a wet golden retriever when it gets wet! It's since been replaced with a new custom naugahyde interior

One of my buddies found one at a yard sale, bought it for a buck, and gave it to me. It's at the shop and I don't have a pic, but it qualifies, I think.
I'm gonna run it when I finish my '31 "A" roadster till I decide what I want to do for a final interior. I've got the middle seat out of a 3 seat Dodge mini-van that I'm starting out using. Still wish I could stumble across some of the plain and simple bucket seats that came in some of the early import sedans or something like them. Not sure about bomber seats, both from cost of the new ones and looks and comfort. Definitely don't like some of the newer ovrstuffed buckets and most of them are high backed and don't look right in a roadster, anyhow, most of them are too wide to get a pair in an "A".

Reminds me of the leather jacket I bought in TJ back in '64. When it got
wet it smelled like pig's piss.......... I'm guessing that's what they used for dye.

    serape [say-ra'-pay]
noun 1. A narrow blanket, worn by men, or thrown over the saddle. (Mexico) (m)

I got this one in Mexicali and picked it because it has a lot of red in it.
Should have gotten two because one won't stay 'thrown over the saddle.'

Can I get a HAMBER to pick one up for me that matches this one?

Those are the "El Cheapo's" that sell most places for $5.00.

The finely woven more colourful ones are Serapes, the more course woven ones with more white and often a cross hatch stripe are Falsa blankets. they all originate from Mexico, all the ones i buy and sell are made in Mexico but i'm sure there are probably some made else where such as China, Malaysia etc...

I'm not sure i'd ever have my seats upholstered in them but i do like to use them to throw over fucked old seats as a temporary fix :)

Yeah I saw those $4 machine made ones. These were bought off the beaten path downtown Ensenada. He started at $20 each. It took some coaxing but their economy is suffering too.

The blanket in my 59 Apache has more of the southwest/native american design to it. I felt it was only fitting to have that style in an Apache after all!:D

I've found a shit-load of those blankets for mere pennies in thrift shops. But then, you can find them almost anywhere here in AZ. You can also find lots of those "Latina Seat Covers" like shown on that green Chebby earlier....

I wanted to sew then in the inserts on the seats but have heard they tend to come apart when cut up and sewn.

You have to put some other material underneath, then you can sew it. That's how it was done on the green Impala.

If you were to paint anything on your car, any of those electric / neon colors found on one of those blankets you would be called any number of derogatory names, but for interior it's fine? I think they are ugly, but work well for laying on in the mud to work on your ride.

It never dawned on me until just now that in most places you don't just go to your local "EL RANCHO MERCADO GRANDE" and buy any number of these that you want. But then again, allot of the billboards in my neighborhood are in a different language these days! Oh, and VIVA LA LATINA SEAT COVERS!!! Especially the ones with long legs and great big...!!!

Right now I dont have a car that would be appropriate for a mexican blanket interior but if I do get one then I will experiment with them.
