  1. Kevin get yourself one of those swinging holders for a boat, and hang it off the dash like they do in a speed boat.

I'll look when I get home I have a link to a place that sells 'em. They're chromed wire lookin' thingys.

I remember people having them in the 70's kept the beer from spilling, back then they would just make you dump it out, if you were toasted they gave you a ride home. :)

I have one of those cheap plastic ones on the seat of the Buick. Works pretty well. Well enough that I've not made a little console like I was planning.

Not only do they have them at boat supply stores, but they have a bunch of other cool stuff.

There is no way that thing is strong enough.

  8. Couldn't you just weld an exhaust clamp off of a bracket on to the backside of your glove box door ??? Better thought how about useing the muffler clamp and cutting two oblong holes near the bottom of the dash. Push the clamp through the holes, nut and washer on back side. It would sit neatly flush like a mini rounded grab handle to pull it in and out to use.

Saw a car here in Tucson, had cupholders that said Coca~Cola from a 1940's shopping cart. That was cool, sorry no pics. Basically chrome wire construction.

Or you could modify a GM Kleenex box to swing out and hold a couple drinks....

The ultimate solution in my book... I found this on a '32 in Ohio... It's an old wood box with an engined turned lid that slides open via an early ford dash knob.

If you make one, go ahead and make 2... cuz my 39 needs one.

Heres what I did.Stole this from a 2000 dodge ram.Was the adjustable cup holder found in the back seat that was mounted under the console. Then mounted it to the bottom of my seat.Works really well and you don't see it when pushed in.

    Kevin,
    What better "solution"?

    1.Does the coffee cup fit?
most coffee shop cups fit in standard 1" tape rolls but if you need the Big Gulp size
just move right on up to the inch and a half roll of tape.

    2.Does it tip?
if it tips, your greasy side is up.

    3.Does it slide?
if it does, watch out for #2

    4. Color doesn't match the interior?
hey they got lots of colors or spray your roll any color you like. Tired of the color? Peel a little off start again.

    5. Is your duct tape/cup holder buddy, a financially sound investment?
Well about $5 gets you set up and if it becomes encrusted with floor grunge another $5
will replace it and the old roll goes into the garage , not the trash.

    6. Can you use your duct tape/cup holder for anything else besides holding your coffee?
Come on Kevin, you know the answer to that.....hell that coffee holder has literally gotten me home at least a couple of times and made my life easier every day it sits on my floor.

I'd like to help you with a solution but What's the Problem

    Ryan,
a couple of things you might want to consider before putting this in the '39-

Lid needs to be removed to use. Where you gonna put it and those corners look like they could do some damage.

Your gonna spill drinks into the wood box and that could get nasty quick if it's not easy to clean.

Much like the one Ryan posted.
I was thinking that a cigar box would look pretty rad.
Open the lid and have a cup holder and a spot for some change.
They come in a bunch of shapes and sizes.

I need one, I normally fire up the T and get some coffee on Saturday mornings. That thing is a pain in the dick to drive one handed as the posi pushes you through the corners and hand signals are almost useless!

I'll have something rigged in my '35 for sure.

you make the cupholder insert able to be lifted out, and coat the inside with something like thompsons water seal. that way anything that spills can be wiped out.
