    You sound like a restorer.

  4. Yup if you want to control what happens to it down the road then don't sellit. Unless you own it it's really out of you control and really none of your business what happens to it when the new owner gets it.

If he/she pays my price for it, it's theirs to do whatever with.

is it in good shape, those guys usually buy some rusted out relic for cheap. If its just a pile of parts I say sell it to him but if its a good car send him away, the next thing is he will probably start lowballing you and just start pissing you off.

Not cars but dealing at flea markets I have not sold things to some people or adjusted my(not always up) price depending on who I sell to. I worked at a junk yard years ago and my boss would do the same depending who you were or how you reacted to his conversation before you got the price.

When its for sale. Its because I am cutting all ties. As long as I get what I want for it and sometimes a little more. I could care less if you lit it on fire.

I had a guy that wouldn't sell me his Electra Glide one time in 1969, because he figured I'd chop it. He was right.

  13. I had a '48 Chevy sedan delivery for sale at the Nats about 30 years ago Guy kept trying to get it cheper then he slipped and played the "I gotta invest X in the interior in order to resell it - you need to come down that much." card. I reached over and pulled the for sale sign off and said that was too bad, it's no longer for sale. Just rubbed me wrong. Over the next winter I sold it for asking to a guy who ended up driving it for a number of years.

I general I agree - pay my price and do what you want, but on a personal level I'd rather sell it to someone who wants it to drive and enjoy.

  14. The guy that actually bought it - probably did. He had just learned slightly before you, to not say anything about it.

I didn't say anything about it. If you had long hair in Lubbock back then, you were one of "them". And you're right, his nephew ended up with the bike and changed 'er up a little.

The opposite happened to me..... I met a guy who had a decent '33 3w body. When talking to him he told me he planned to mount the body on a 4 x 4 Bronco chassis to use as a hunting buggy. I bought the body from him to save the car from the embarrassment.

Not really. It would make me sad depending on what they planned, but in this economy, it's dangerous to be picky.

  20. I would prefer not to know-good-bad-or indifferent. I am selling it, so no longer my business. To put it into perspective, consider ex-wife/s, or ex-girlfriend/s.

Well, this was an O/T car, but a few years ago we sold our daily driver before moving to TN. Even though it was a modern boring 4-door daily, it was a great running little car that was dirt reliable and dependable and handy to have around.

Well, after the deal was done, I followed the guy back to his house in the car and he drove me back home it. He just might have been the worst driver I have ever ridden with and he abused the clutch, transmission, and the brakes! On the way he happened to mention that he bought this car for his wife because she has totaled three cars in three years!

I'm sure that great little car got trashed in short order.

I still regret selling it to him.

You can't build or save them all,...... (I said it,... can't believe I said it,... but I did:eek:)

Our car in question,.... (looks nice)

I'm kinda on the fence regarding something similar. I've got my other '47 Olds convertible for sale and I'd like the new owner to sign the bill of sale stating that they wouldn't paint the car purple. Not sure they would would sign something like this or if it would even stand up but I just don't want another purple '47 Oldsmobile running around the country. I'm sure in the long run the person would want a color as far from purple as possible but ya never know.

A local guy here has a 4 dr 51 . Was looking at my coupe and ask if it was for sale. I said "might be , why? " He said Im thinking about buying it and cutting both of them in half and trying to turn my car into a 2 dr. I asked he had tried this before. He said never done any body work. So I said I dont think I want to sell it right now.. I try not to think about my cars , but wish they go to someone who really wants them and will drive and take care of them

If it's for sale it's anyone's choice to do with it what they want once they buy it.
I have the cash and the car ceases to exist in my mind.
When buying a car if they are the type that has to know if you will be a caretaker
for Uncle Freds old POS and restore it I just nod and smile and tell them what they
want to hear, load it up and drag it home.

  27. As long as I have cold, hard CASH in my hands, I don't care what the new owner does with it. If I really cared, I wouldn't have sold it in the first place. I'm not emotionally attached to machinery. It is a possession, being sold to someone else to do with as they please.

I have only one car that I'm even remotely attached to emotionally, and consequently, it is not for sale...unless someone has a truckload of cash, then we'll chat.
