No offense to you, I thought it might be an interesting read...but it turned into a laundry list of people's pet peeves, most of which are easily corrected by an average person that likes to modify cars.

I was expecting things like serious rust issues, missing rare, expensive, hard to find parts etc.....but instead I got to read the same old badassed traditional rodder pet peeve stuff like late model columns, big wheels, and SBC's

Here's a car I bought this past fall, the majority of posters on this thread apparently would have passed it up because of the sidepipes and wheels, and there's some diamond tuck in there too....:) not to mention the dreaded 327 SBC......

    I got it cheap too.....

yeah, that's what i intended when i started the thread. of course major issues like that stuff are a big no-no but i just was thinking about the simple mistakes that people with (seemingly) good intentions make-ie: modern gauges and seats in a great old car.
no worries, no offense taken. :D

This. A car title is a pretty important document, so it makes me wonder why people don't make more of an effort to keep up with them.

Clusterfucked wiring is another turnoff for me. I can deal with an old cracked original harness, but when I see shit patched up with zip cord and wire nuts I have to wonder what else has been 100% halfassed.

I would say a big turn off is the owner who did nothing to the car (except paying the bill and wahing it) and claims he did everything himself knowing the guys that did the work for him. We all know 1 or 2 of them Huh?

Simply amazing - the OP repeats several times that this thread is about things that would stop you from looking any further at a car - possibly one that you might otherwise be interested in purchasing. Yet apparently many of you do not read and continue to post piss ant peeves like 'I hate twisty nuts' and the like. What is so hard about staying on topic and actually posting something relevant to the original post on this thread???:confused::confused:

And I bet you that once I have posted this there will be a load more piss ant peeves posted - anyone want to wager?

Another one for me - never buy a car that has a paint color or paint job you cannot live with. If you have to repaint it and change the color you are going to have to strip it down and then you may well end up rebuilding the car from scratch - ask me how I know....

Probably a weird hangup but universal ripple radiator hose or phony Walmart braided stainless cover-ups and pseudo AN fittings with hose clamps "hidden" inside make me wonder what else was half-assed on the car.

    1st turn off, The Seller
2nd, car, or truck full of trash when they are trying to sell it.
3rd, doctored up cars, I bought a motorhome years ago where the owner had put many cans of stop leak to fix the cracked heads on a ford 460. Then he draind the radiator and filled with fresh antifreeze. The stop leak lasted about 200 miles. cost me about $1000 to get the Motorhome, and race car trailer back from Portage Wisconsin.
4th you realize 2 and 3 are both back to a-hole sellers.

Rust or body damage is what turns me off most. Bolt on stuff is easy to remedy. The last car I bought I had to pretty much replace every mechanical component. It does have the same alternator and waterpump, not much else.
I know the guy that sold it to me just threw it together to sell it. I knew he thought he got me, but I knew going into it I wasn't going to trust his work so I figured on going through all the stuff anyway. He owns a automotive repair shop the next town over, and whenever I was over there when I was working on the mechanical stuff I would "all in good fun", bust his balls about the hokey shit he did. Like welding the headers straight to the exhaust and using two different kinds of brake pads, ect. Oh, and the cobbled together transmission mount. I asked if he wanted it back since he has another El Camino like it he was working on. We both had big shit eating grins and laughed when he said, "Ummm, No.".

    1. Would be sellers with an attitude.
    2. Car/truck full of garbage.
    3. Car that someone has tried to to the "value added" thing. I won't pay extra for fancy wheels or a fresh primer job over old dead paint or rust.
    4. I don't really care about the add on dodads that guys have on their car or high back seats or braided stainless line. All of that can be pulled out or off and sold or swapped off as long as the seller doesn't think it adds to the price of the car.

  24. Yep, just another whinefest thread that is all too common here, now where is that dang unsubscribe button...
