"eldebrock" annoys the hell outta me. you even see it on craigslist.

i never knew how to say weiand until i saw a pic of the valve covers: "say why and". goes to show that when they started out noone knew how to pronounce their company's name.

  13. In spite of what Gray Baskerville, and every other automotive journalist have thought for the last 50 years, my last name is NOT pronounced LOW!!!!!

Even the Loughhead brothers got tired of folkls mis-pronouncing their name. They finally gave up and changed the spelling to match the annunciation...Lockheed, builders of the P-38 Lightning of WW2 and of course the famous SR-71 Blackbird, and many, many more great aircraft.

Along with those who say El-de-brock, just as annoying are those who say:

    Gart-lits.

There's only one 'T' in Don's name and it's at the end. The man's name is GAR-lits.

    Thanks for this tread....
I thought my question on PHAETON was a good one....
Maybe someone got stupid on it after the last time I looked at it, but I was at a loss for why it would be closed.

Seems so many people in this hobby love to jump all over someone when they get something wrong.... so what's wrong with a thread like this to educated those of us that learned from magazines and books and werent lucky enough to have dad's, friends, or brothers that were CAR GUYS??

  26. I always thought Hemi was pronounced HEM-e, until I went to the Mopar Nats for the first time in 1990. Some folks from Slippery Rock Arkansas taught me it was pronounced HEE-Ma. As in "that thang got a HEE-Ma?"
