Yes, that's Riverside Park. When they built the new banked 1/4 mile track (1972), they used the old lights.

    Hey weathrmn

That was in the day of trailer bar suspensions. Ray out handled them back then .. beat them both going in & coming off.

The Ray Liss, Joe Hall rivalry also kept Bill Singer's old radio show really rolling, with LOTS & LOTS of controversial calls from fans. Ray at times would even call in himself, just to kind of add fuel to the fire!!! :)

I've some FUNNY stories that I can tell about Ray .. one of the milder ones was of him wearing ONLY a diaper (as Baby New Year) at a New Years Party .. I snapped a picture of him coming down the stairs like that, as the ball fell bringing in the New Year & it was published in Sammons paper, the Area Auto Racing News (AARN).

I've kinda lost track of him. Last I knew he had a fabricating shop in Brick, NJ .. recently heard he has a new & bigger place, but don't know the name of it &/or if he's still in Bricktown.

I just missed him at Ken Brenn's show in Warren, NJ this past September. I didn't know he was there, but when I brought his name up in conversation with Ace Lane, Jr. .. Ace said "HE JUST LEFT!!!" .. Ray was there with his old coupe.

Ray is a great guy & lots of fun to spend time with!!!!

I'll try and scan them and go to photobucket. I've got a bunch of programs and magazines too. Mostly SCR and Seekonk. As for the Wed. shows, I always had to work the next morning so I never went until this past summer.

My first try at scanning and lightening the image up. Actaully, my son did the scan on his copier for me. The first and second pic are out of order but you'll get the jist of it. Well, here goes.

I wondered about that. I was at the Trenton and Pocono ROC's, and I didn't remember seeing any wings, and I also believe Charlie Jarzombek was running a Vega or pinto by then. The photo and stands also look quite modern, but It's been many years since I was there so I didn't wish spout off with nothing to back-up my addeled brain.

This is a great thread. The pictures displayed bring back great memories. If anyone has any pictures of Riverhead Raceway circa 1963 - 1965, it would be cool to see them. also any pictures of the 1968 Riverhead Sportsman Champion Jimmy Reed. Thanks!

For some reason, sixties Riverhead photos haven't shown up on the net. If you want to see a picture of Jim Reed's "Xciter" the 68 Riverhead Sportsman champ ,go the www.thehimesmuseum.vze.com website and look at the stock car photos, photos number 86 and 103. He came over to Weissglass Stadium at the end of the 68 season and won the last three weeks in a row. A year later that same car was painted green and had a small block chevy in it. I saw it at Freeport on street tires during the Donaldson era.www.weissglassspeedway.com ....Regards,George.
