Good gal ya got there! Last Christmas I got Dirty Mary & Crazy Larry. The wife humored me and even sat thru 1/2 of it. My son liked it, especially because the Charger looked like the General Lee. AG & More AG in 1 disc sounds awesome, gotta love Milners' chute pack dragster. Couple of the cars have Center Line wheels, thats just me being picky..
I bought that double feature about three years ago. I had never seen More American Graffitti.....I have to admit, it wasn't what I would have expected, but the dvd was the same price as the single film version, so I don't regret it or anything......I just haven't watched #2 since the first time I watched it.
I have the same disc in the garage, its a good motivational tool when i dont feel like working on my rod.
OK..I tried this question on another AG thread and didn't get any hits so I'll give it one more shot here : Lucas really worked hard at "getting it right" where most flicks of this genre are pretty lame...one part in the script always puzzled me though and I guess now is as good a time as any to ask: HOLSTEIN Uh-huh. Milner, the reason I stopped you was because the light on your license plate is out. (opening his ticket book) I'm gonna have to cite you for that. And Milner, the front end of this... this... this thing you're driving looks a little low. JOHN Oh, no sir. It's twelve and a half inches. Regulation size. Now, it's been checked several times. You can check it if you like, sir. ok I hope i don't end up looking stupid here but was there any such similar law regarding front end height and if so where were they supposed to be taking this measurement.......spreader bar ? It's hard to believe Lucas just made this up and added it as a throw-away line since he was well aware that all the car guys would be scrutinizing.....
I got a package from them a couple years ago for $9.99 that was called the "Born to be Wild" pack, it was awesome. In the pack was The Choppers, Hot Rod Girl, T-bird Gang, and Wild Ride.
I used to sell the heck out of the drive in double feature set until it was picked up at Wal-Mart. The original contract called for a sequel but because the way the original ended no one wanted to make the second movie. No where near as "feel good" as the first, the second movie followed the right path with what was going on in that time period. An excellent book to read is Skywalking, the life & times of George Lucas. Lots of great information about American Graffiti as well as his other movies.
That's pretty cool your gal got you that for your b day. Mine got me a sweet Hank Williams 2 disc cd packed with 42 amazing songs. Gotta love it.
Lucas just spit it out. Seemed to like 12. "You never heard of the Millennium Falcon? It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs." A parsec is a measure of distance, not time, so it makes no sense.
My AG DVD has a good documentary in the bonus features; does the double pack have this? I may need to have another AG viewing tonight...
wasnt it the headlight height that was in question ,the cal bug guys had the same problem in VWs i thought, early Morris Minors also,,
Kool post!! My Kids bought it for me for Christmas, I was waiting for a cold weekend to watch it, Saturday will be the the day....
So im hangin with my younger cousin today and he considers himself a gearhead but then tells me ... he has never seen American Graffiti!!!! I made him sit his ass down & watch the whole thing,he loved it. My point of this is ......... if you have not watched this in a while, take the time and watch it again, what a bad ass movie!!!!!!!!!!
I have it on VCR The first disc and the 25 year special saw it 23 times in the movie theater got a good tag line out of it too
Somebody complained about the centerline wheels in the ' More American Graffiti' part? I dunno, I'll have to go back and take a look at that one again. As for the first movie, several of the lead cars are running chrome 'reverse', allthough you can see that they are really just chrome wheels without the reverse element. I lived thru those years and in 1962 aftermarket wheels were virtually unheard of. As a matter of fact unless you were from California or maybe a well-financed racer,I don't think you would even have heard the term 'mag' wheel in those days. The really hot setup on the street at the time was to cut the center section out of your OEM wheel and reverse it in the rim and chuck it up in a big lathe to set it to a custom offset (usually shallower backspace) which created a deeper dish when viewed from the outside. Then you welded it up along with the original valve hole and drilled a new one on the outside. Then it was off to the chrome shop and the result was 'chrome reverse' wheels. If you ever have an opportunity to look closely at some OEM wheels from the 50's check out the inside of the wheel which faced the drum and you'll notice how the rim tapers in from the outside edge as opposed to a series of steps. This was what made them look really cool when chromed. If you had any money left over you'd spring for a set of chrome 'spyders' to go with them. Chrome reverse wheels by the way, are the only custom wheels that were ever popularized in song at the time of 'Little Deuce Coupe', '409', 'Little GTO', 'Hey Little Cobra' etc. I can't remember which song mentions them but I'll think of it As far as the accuracy of these movies; well AG is set in '62 which would make the alternator on Milner's coupe inaccurate as the big three switched from generators in '65. She's got a competition clutch with a four on the floor, And she purrs like a kitten till the lakepipes roar, And if that ain't enough to make you flip your lid, There's one more thing....I've got the pink slip daddy
