Haha...the term steampunk is kind of a late 1800s fantasy-futuristic design that involves all things steampowered.

    some examples:

steampunk has been discussed here before

    just search the word

  7. I did, it shows up as a post in design threads like "Hey, that ________ you just posted is really steampunk."

Jules Verne/Wild, Wild West kinda style.

  8. OK, I'll do it. Got any more pictures of this, ah, thing??[IMG][/QUOTE]

The fad has passed, and quite some time ago, at that. Leave it dead.

gotta respect the craftsmanship, if nothing else. It's hard to knock someone for their hobbies when I walk around lookin' like I'm from the 50s. If age has taught me anything, it's not to be too judgmental because chances are someone is looking at you the same way.

As in my '36, somebody referred to my shifter as being "steampunk", and I'll admit I had to google it to know quite the guy meant. Who knew, I just liked the idea of old typewriter keypads as shift indicators...

  16. Steampunk, what's that, a Stanley Steamer done up as a Donk?

The picture looks like a pile of junk, it's hard to believe someone actually made it look that way on purpose.

Guys, lighten up on the Steampunk car. You have to think of that thing not in "legitimate" car terms. It's like looking at the car in Back to the Future...or Doc's time train and trying to comment on it as if it's legitimate, they're an exercise in movie fantasy. That thing is like a movie prop, styled in a way to match a design motif.....not be a bona fide part of the hobby.

For what it's worth, "steampunk" belongs in MMOs and 2ndLife roleplay games.

I don't see fit for either one on a traditional hotrod message board.

  20. Everybody's right, we probably shouldn't fix up these old pieces of crap like the article suggested.

  21. the artical says anyone fixing their own car could get hit with breech of copywright?
if this planet gets anymore PC, we,ll all have to go live on the moon!

steampunk is actually pretty neat, jules verne even captain nemos ship nautilus was a steampunk, however it's all decorative.

As for the pic, you could tell its a model look at the way the valve covers come out it's a 145* v-8. The detail is pretty cool and you'd be surprised this stuff sells big to the sci-fi comic crowd.

i actually stumbled upon a steampunk show by accident in santa rosa this past summer where they were drag racing hand-cars on the train tracks. some of them were incredibly well built and detailed. that being said, i didn't post pics on here because they're not hot rods ...

My friends built the one with the big "hambster wheel" rear wheel, with people running inside it.

The trouble is I know morons who would look at that and think 'wow cool hotrod,I wanna have something like that rather than spend my money on more facial piercing'.Please make it go away before it gives them ideas.

I think that thing is different, and cool. Would love to see it built for real. Pretty sure that the original hot rodders back in the 30's-40's were looked at as punks and degenerates when they were building "ugly" rods.
