have you ever not sold a car to someone because of what they were gonna do to it

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rhd, Jan 4, 2010.

  1. Basically I reckon if I care about what's gonna happen to it, I'm not gonna sell it. If I can part with it, then it's the next dude's car to what he wants with it. As was previously mentioned, I agree with the HAMBers who figure out the guy is low-balling them to flip the car. As I'm concerned he can go flip off if he's out to make his money screwing the seller.

when i sold my o/t 66 chevelle a couple years ago the guy who came to look at it started talking about 18" billett wheels , changing the cherry stock interior , ect , ect. . I had owned it for 10 years , done all the work myself and was pretty attached to it . It was a clean orig. car that had been mildly hot rodded in a late 60's/ early 70's style and i started having images of seeing it at some car show all "street rodded" out , but as soon as he started counting out stacks of $100 bills on my kitchen table i couldnt get the pink slip fast enough !

I learned not to ask. I spent 5 years on a car, chopping, lowering, customizing and then sold it to a rockabilly kid that beat the hell out of it to make it a rat rod and then parked in the garage and left it. I would rather sell it to someone out of state so I don't have to see it again.

That sucks ass! I know the feeling. My 61 is under reconstruction, but it's being made to look like it just rolled off the assembly line. Must be nice to have that kinda loot!

When I was buying a nice 38 Buick coupe the guy saved for years in a garage he asked me if I was going to hot rod it.He said he wouldn't sell it to me if I did.I lied through my teeth,OH NO sir I will restore it. A year later I was waiting for my wife at the store with the car running,Rumble ,rumble ,nice custom paint and custom wheels. The guy walks up and says NO it is you,my old car you lied to me but it does look nice this way also,he walked away shaking his head.

When you own the car, it is your car. Up to the point you sell it.
So you can decide who you want to pass it on to. It is still your car.
You have the right to try to find it a good home. Nothing arrogant about that.

On a regular basis I have 2 people that want the same car. When it is between an old timer who had a similar car in high school, and wants it for his 50 year class reunion verse I guy who is nice enough, I sell the car to the old guy to fulfill his dream before he dies.

Also, I always sell the car to the nicest most polite person on a regular basis.

No, it's theirs so I don't concern myself about it. However I wonder what the guy that sold Jesse James that Anglia thinks?

    This is somewhat O/T, but
Few years ago I noticed a 80's MonteCarlo for sale in town. At first I thought it might make a good parts car for hot rod material, but up close it was in really great shape. So I called anyways.
The voice sounded familiar and he said he'd meet me by the car in 2-3 mins. A little later car pulls up and its my old highschool principle!! He had just retired and was selling his very well maintained car for some unknown reason.
His price was a bit too high but I said I'll take it!
Went straight to the bank, and then to his house with the cash. As I was leaving he said to "take care of her" and I just replied with a shiteating grin :D

About three months later he ran into me at a gas station (it was perfect, I had my pitbull in the car with me) and seen what I had done. His face was void of all expressions. This is his old car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCjN1a5j_WM

If you are gonna sell a car, you either need money or just want something different. If you get what you want out of the deal, you shouldn't care about what they do.
