I louvered a hood for an A C Greyhound about a month ago, and during the conversation the owner said he had an Allard, flathead powered, that he'd bought in Penn. a few years ago, and he offered to show it to me. Time and weather have not made that possible, as yet.
I'll forward him this thread and maybe he'll come on and post some pics.
I'd post pics of the Greyhound,,,but I don't know how, I'll email them to someone if they'll post them.

Last year I was looking at a 57 T-bird in a barn in pieces. The old fella had a stroke. There was a few cars in there. didn"t take much notice. As I looked at the parts.I lifted a tarp up. He said thats for sale too.I said what was it a MG he didn"t like that comment. he said 1939 allard. It had a v8 60 with 2 carbs,39 trans ,banjo rear, nice dash, cool windshield. I thought it was odd cause it had wide 5"s on it . Where and what numbers do I look for. Are these made part alum.? How can I tell if it"s the real deal....Brian

Just got back from Limeworks this morning. Steve was hard at work when i arrived. The mock-up on the suspension is almost complete. He still needs to remove cowl and install steering column, and box. Then they have a "dummy" block to use for trail fit with transmission. Progress is coming along rather good. By next week the chassis mock-up should be complete.

i dont disagree with the ARDUN and Allard connection but i have never read anything that suggests Sidney Allard had his hands in the development of them. He definitely had no part in their design while operations were based in New York.
by the time Duntov moved shop to England the heads had been designed and produced for a year (1948) in NY.... in early 1949 the company went bankrupt. Koudasch and Duntov went their separate ways of course.

As I recall the conversion was not offered in J2's after a short period due to the Cad and Chrysler OHV's.

if you have information that says otherwise could you point me in their direction? i am always looking for new data.

The De Dion axle...is that just using 2 forward arms and a Panhard bar for location???
Is there allowance somewhere for articulation of the rear suspension?
Perhaps one forward arm has a bushing at the axle while the other bolts solid?

There are Heim joints on the front of the Radius rods to allow for articulation , I'm going to make some spacers tomorrow as it has a bunch of 5/8 washers at the moment & that looks like a farmer did it. I've just put the trans in & bolted the shifter on which is a column shifter modified , it works great , I'll post photos tomorrow . The clutch linkage has more monkey motion than you can believe but it seems to work fine. Pix tomorrow .

    AUTOMOBILE QUARTERLY, Vol. 8, No. 4, 1970

Probably the most entertaining article about an Allard that I ever read.
"Grendl" J2X Allard, a vehicle feared by all.

Push Me Pull U clutch arrangement looks weird but works great.[IMG][IMG]
The shifter is a work of art in it's simplicity & it works brilliantly, shift from 1st to 2nd is faultless as the column shifter is sprung to the center /2nd 3rd rail.[IMG]

Note this is all for mock up to see what needs replacing repairing or updating for racing, etc. Mock up block in today .

Thanks Steve and Cruzr for taking the time to post the detail pics, lots of very interesting features there. Looks like the front half axles had shock locations in the beam, but the shocks have been moved out right to the kingpin to get them as close to the wheel as possible. Loving the column shifter based floor shift - how tidy is that?. Lots of cool details around the rear end too.. and then there's the steering.
What a fascinating car - and all so familiar as it's early Ford based.
I'll be following this one for sure.
    Mart.
    PS Hi Steve.

Hi Mart , do you have any idea what the trans is off ? , it has Ford numbers on the side plate, strangely offset inspection cover & a squared off left side of the housing , very odd.

Don't know for sure, Steve, but plenty of RHD markets for Ford..like UK V8's, Pilots and Aussie /NZ SA etc. I don't have a RHD case here to closely compare with, but I do know they look a bit "funny" in other words they are not a mirror image of a LHD side shifter box, and have "odd" angles, like you describe. I'm guessing standard RHD side shift.

The green car with Halibrands is local here. It has run the Historic Hershey Hillclimb and been to at least one Jalopy Showdown, maybe '06. Pretty sure it's a Caddy.

Steve contact Gavin Allard, he's the company archivist. He might be able to help or know someone who can........... gavin@allardmotorcompany.co.uk

Allard bodies were metal, that one looks like glass and it's described as a Laser JSX

All Allards of that period were handmade, so no they're not kit cars although there may be replica kits available now.

Mock up Engine with the 6 carb set up , we have to see if this fits under the hood !!!
Destined for chrome valve covers & just a little chrome 6 x Holley 2100 carbs , I do believe we have a Hot Rod :) The real Engine is Bright red to match the car.
