I just rebuilt my 727 transmission, and it won't shift into 2nd gear. I pulled the governor apart but i saw nothing wrong. i then put it back together and every thing worked great"shifted intio all gears", then it went back to not shifting. The front band is set properly. If the throttle valve is held in the kick down position would this prevent the 1st to 2nd shift. I'm near the end of my rope!!! please help..

Trash in gov or tv rod is hanging up. Was this trans in the car when it failed if so you are pumping all the trash from the ****** cooler back thru the trans.

  4. throttle valve rod adjustment is very critical! Also, make sure the throttle valve is hooked up inside the ******.

I'm sure the front servo is working. I think it is stuck valve in either the valve body or the governor. I wonder if the only thing to do is dimantle the transmission and reclean everything . It's an ugly job.. the tranfer case weighs almost 200 lbs alone..

  6. tying back the kickdown is not a good idea and is part of your problem. Get the proper linkage hooked up before you do anything else. FSM is your friend on getting the kickdown set up properly.

I agree that there is probably some trash in the hydraulics or a bad seal somewhere as well.

I got some info from a chrysler service tech, He agreed that it sounds like a sticking governor valve. He said to take the truck up to about 30 mph and put it in PARK for a few seconds while in motion then back to drive. since the governor is bolted to the parking gear this will be the same as tapping on it.
Sounds crazy but it worked!! :D Hopefully the crud will get washed into the filter.
I think I'll put a side stream filtration sytem in.

If you pull the valve body out you can air check the band servo's quite easily. There is a hole right next to either one you can put a rubber tipped blow gun into and check to see if theyre operating correctly or not. While its out, you can check your valves to make sure theyre all moving freely. Otherwise, yeah, Governor sticking or throttle valve mis-adjustment would be my guesses. The 31TH front wheel drive's had sticking governor issues. I drove many miles through backroads shifting 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, and allowing them to heat cycle a time or two before the damn governor valves would finally be free and work properly. Either of these wont require you to pull the ******. just get a little messy.

  9. I made my govenor in the 63. It stuck off and on at first but after a day seated in and has been working flawlessly now 10years. Doesnt take much to hang it up.

  10. I don,t think it would be wise to shift into "PARK" while in motion....you obviously meant "NEUTRAL".

Done it a hundred times.. LOL not something I would tell some to do that is for sure..but it prove the point.. need to take the gov apart and clean and polish the pistons and bores..when you put it in park like that the parking pawl ratted the gov and shake it loose.

hey it a mopar trans..it can take it... just don't do it to a chevy trans LOL

  12. Usually if I rebuild a 3 speed automatic and it has upshift problems the governor is the cause. Shifting into neutral while moving byp***es the governor and it shifts into the higher gear when dropped back into drive. Sometimes all it takes is a ride down a rough road to shake things up and dislodge the stuck weight..... Sometimes a no shift condition can be a stuck upshift valve in the valvebody as well.

  13. If the kick down is wired back as in full throttle pressure it will not shift unless it's under full throttle. They used to do that for drag racing only so you have to wind out each gear full throttle to get it to shift.
