Just a heads up... Don't do business with Freman's Auto in Montana. I contacted this guy in September about an axle shaft for a 1958 Edsel. "Oh yeah, we got that." So I send my $123.60 via Paypal and start waiting. Now I'm pretty patient, so after a month, I called. I never lost my temper - I've always been very polite with this guy. "Oh yeah, that's gonna ship at the end of the week." Another few weeks go by and I call again. "Oh yeah, that's gonna ship at the end of the week." Another few weeks go by and I call again. "Oh yeah, that's gonna ship..." You can see where this is going.

So last Tuesday (January 4th) I call and very politely tell him that I no longer want the axle shaft, just a refund. "Oh yeah, we'll get that in the mail" I informed him that I paid via Paypal and I would like a Paypal refund. "Oh yeah, we'll do that tomorrow." A week later and no refund. I call him Wendsday and get "Oh yeah, we'll do that tomorrow". Still no refund.

I got burned by this guy and feel that it's my responsibility to let other HAMBers know. Yes I tried Bob at Owens Salvage first (I highly recommend Owens for all your parts needs, btw). Just be warned if you decide to take a chance on these Freman's clowns.

If you still need that axle shaft try www.jwcl***ics.com the owner bought an estate about a year ago with around 20 Edsels mostly to part out some are sellable drivers.

You can report them to PayPal and they will apply pressure. Had to do that for a shirt I ordered once.

Do you own a 58 Edsel? If so, can I come over and drool on it?

Sounds like you could have been talking to a parrot on the phone...

  5. Hmmm. It would never had occurred to me to be polite for that long.

  6. Call Paypal, you'll get the money back today. Isn't a '58 Edsel rear an early Ford 9-inch? Axles for that shouldn't be so hard to find you need to call up a junkyard halfway across the country, 57-58-59 Ford at the least should all swap.

that ****s but it seems to be going around. i had something similar happen on a tri-intake. i did pay the shop with paypal. i just logged onto the paypal site and opened an item not recieved dispute, they give the seller 7 days to respond, fix it or, refund my money. after 10 days i had the money back in my account. (after i stated my side of the story ect.ect.). i was glad i used paypal and not just a money order. (still waiting on one of those to be re-imbursed) good luck,

pm me your phone number and i'll try to find you one at another yard.

  11. Ahh yes, I wasn't sure if the Merc body ones used a different rear or not. Those used to be all over a junkyard here, but they're getting fairly scarce.

pay pal may or may not help ya, but if you used a credit card to back up pp, and they cancel the payment, then pp will jump to attention.

the only problem i see , is if you waited too long the cc co may not want to reverse the charge.

good luck, hope ya get the dough

Is this different than a 62 or 63 Ford would be?

I tried going thru PayPal for satisfaction, but after 45 days you're on your own. I had the funds drafted from my checking account, so no help from the CC company either. I guess my fuse with these guys should have been quite a bit shorter.

It's a drivers side, big bearing, 28 spline 9" axle with the 5 x 5" pattern which is what seemed to make it so hard to find. Even with the shipping it was going to be cheaper than having a new one made. I have since decided to keep this axle on the shelf for a future project (it's the super narrow early 9" with no dimples on the back and a drain plug in the bottom) so I'm fine with not having the axle shaft just yet.

And for the fella up the road in Jacksonville, the rest of the car is still in the junkyard in Mount Olive. Here's a pic of it. Some joker had removed the axle, spread the parts of it all over the place and then just walked away from it. All I had to do was pick it up, pay $25 and take it home.

What is your bolt pattern? There are Two different ones. I had a 58 Edsel Ranger and it had a Mercury rear end in it. When I replaced a rear axel in it they tried to sell me ome from a 59 edsel and it wouldn't fit. I had to get one from a 56 Merc.

Yeah I'm pretty polite too, but I believe I would have paid those boys a visit. With the blackjack I keep in my shop. I might not have gotten my money, but someone would have gone to the hospital.

little paypal lesson for everyone. ALWAYS pay with a credit card and never believe the ******** any seller gives you. I'd never let anything go over 30 days or so.

I've been waiting since October for a front bumperette and an interior mirror for our '56 Plymouth. When I enquired a month later, I got this response:

"We are currently about six weeks behind. We spent the better part
of October crushing cars and got behind on our order pulling.
We are now pulling orders again and should be caught up in the
    next few weeks.
    Thank you for your patience."

    I'm still waiting.

I can vouch for that. I bought a set of '54 Dodge side trim from them off Ebay a couple of years ago. A couple of the pieces were a little rougher than I expected, but they did ship them after 2 weeks like they said they would.

I guess phone order don't get your ratings.

Good luck getting your money back. I'm think they'll ship you the piece before they do that.

I did business with three different places in Montana and the Dakodas back in the late 70's. I had enough after those experiences to stay away. The only way to deal with some of these questionable businesses is in person with money and parts changing hands at the same time. It is surprising since they need buyers from outside the areas to exist.

You're gonna keep on waiting too, Dave.

On a more positive note, I found an email from paypal waiting for me at home tonight. My money has been refunded. This note came with it:

"1958 Edsel axle shaft. Evidently mis-communication on the customers part. He has a hard time listening & even harder time reading our policy with regards to orders placed. Paypal should be aware of people that intentionally want to cause harm/problems for other people. Marsha Freman"

I can only guess that someone must have tipped them off to this post on the HAMB. I suppose a little bad press was just the kick in the nuts that they needed to step up and act right! But they couldn't resist taking a shot at me with the miscommunication, hard time listening and hard time reading thing. They kept my money for four months, evidently with no intention of delivering and I'M THE BAD GUY?
