Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 51ChevPU, Jun 2, 2008.

  1. Here's my 32 Ford Pickup in 1960 with a 292 Y Block, 3 Deuces and Headers.
    Should have kept this one!

Not much to look at yet, but it's comming along. It's a '30 Model A pickup, unchopped with a 4" channel. Reversed firewall for clearance, and motor raised up for future access to the oil filter. Running a '59 Edsel 292 with an Edsel Mile-O-Matic trans. Not sure if I'm going to use my 3x2 intake, 6x2 intake or finish working on my blower intake.

I like it. You could get a BIG Truck oil filter adapter that put the filter at a right angle if you need more clearance.

If you can find a copy of the original instruction sheet for a Hurst motor mount they had a smaller (shorter) filter listed by part number too

If you're using a spin-on adapter it should take a Motorcraft FL1A filter. But if you need a shorter one, try a M/C FL300, same filter just shorter. If you want or have space for one with more capacity the FL299s should work; they were/are used primarily on truck engines/school busses etc. I'm pretty sure all 3 have the same threads and sealing surface. The Motorcraft #s should easily cross ref to other brand filter #s.

That's too nice of a motor not to be running in something

  11. The Y block was pretty, and also a very strong runner. The late 50's and early 60's had them selling very cheap.A lot of intakes and headers were easy come by also. I had Y blocks for years. Olds and Caddy were hard to beat, but Occasionally I could . The Buick's had lots of torque, but the trans would slip after a few runs.Great memories of some very fast rides in the Y block Fords. Dual exhausts were a must.

  18. Whoa.. which Stock 4 barrel are you modifying? the 62 trucks (even the big one's that i know of) didn't come with 4 barrels.. if it's a later Holley style manifold you don't wanna do that

  26. For those of us who drive on the 'right' side of the road... How are you dealing with exhaust/clutch/oil/steering all wanting to be in the same 1sq foot of space. My brother is struggling with this issue at the moment and it looks like a remote oil filter will be required as well as headers/manifolds that dump further forward? Also, no one has mentioned that the engine wants to be offset in order to centre the fan... Could it be because the factory had similar issues?

Cool stuff here by the way..!

  27. Should have mentioned: It's a 292 going into a Deuce frame with F1 steering box....

If standard oil filter is too long, try one swedish Volvo B18 four cylinder engine filter. It's shorter and has same threads. Works for me thought :).

I really wish that the chucklehead that I bought my car from would have left the Y-Block where it belonged, they are beautiful engines.
