The results of the Goodguys Yearbook cover contest are in. There were TONS of killer entries and the judging was HARD! If you missed the HAMB entries, you can see them HERE.

The HAMB contributed about 1/3 of the total of about 300 entries, but makes up over 3/4 of the top 12.

We ended up with one winner and 11 Honorable mentions.

We culled it down from 300 to 140, then down to about 60, then 24, then 12, then three, before struggling to decide on the winner.

Here'e the winner, submitted via www.GoodguysForum.com

Yes. It was a big negative mark against that one for us. Plus, I'm well-aware of the conspiracy theories that will sprout from it. The truth is that it's a legit entry and it was chosen by committee, even with it's handicap.

well that is a good picture and makes a nice cover. was the black background photoshopped in by you guys or is that how the original photo was?

  10. Look at the bright side!
It's a brand new topic for people to hound you about at shows instead of the always popular: Hey did you take a picture of my car? or how come a photo of my award winning car didn't make it into the Gazette?:D

    Anyways,

It's an awesome photo, it met the criteria of the contest, and in my opinion, out of all the finalist it fit's the best with the theme of Yearbook cover's since 2006. I can't wait to get my copy.

    Good subjects. Great compositions. Congrats!

Don't know why the photos look like 100x100 thumbnails blown up for print though.

  13. Gary's Chrysler looks cool. Denise's Olds always looks good. Tough choices no matter what. I thought mine might make it but I guess the fact that I didn't submit it could have something to do with it not being chosen.
    CONGRATS to all.
    Later,
    Dick

As much as I like Big Olds, I would have voted for number two.

Hey at least one of mine made an honorable mention! That winning photo looks great--definitely wouldn't have wanted to be a judge.

To me, each image communicates a different message. The first one is, to me, definately more conservative and less committed than the other two. It could be representative of a larger group than the other two, as there really isn't anything non-stock about the vehicle itself to define the audience of the publication. The Imperial seems to communicate a quiet class. The other two communicate modified, fast, cool, and more committed to purpose and style. They are all great images, but I like the second two better than the first (not suprising, being on this board) and could see them being used in the future on other items. Nice shots for sure.

I'm honored that Mike AKA Buick59's shot of Big Olds was one of the ones chosen. That dudes got mad talent. Congrats to Mike and all the others who's shots were selected.

Killer pics but .........Ive got a soft spot for the Dragster ;)

  22. #2 does it for me.

  23. Damn those Danville Dukes ... nothing but a bunch of magazine cover elitists!

I was really pulling for Buick59's "34 Salt" or his photo of Big Olds on the deserted Wendover road (glad to see they took 2nd & 3rd place) ... but I gotta admit that Jason Deng's shot of Meadors' 1956 Chrysler 300 B is a real bitchin' image.

Congrats also to Buick59, Deadender60, NotStockPhoto, HenryJGuy, & camaromustang for the Honorable Mentions!

The low-res version I posted does it no justice. It's pretty masterful.

'56 300B is one of my all-time favorite cars. Glad to see those beautifully styled headlight buckets getting some exposure. Is there an album of photos from that shoot? Would love to have some new Desktop material.

Oh, gotta admit I would have run with #2, but don't tell Gary I said that.

He also submitted a front shot from about 6 feet off the ground that was stellar too. I'll see if I can find it to post too.
