No. A highboy is a vehicle which sits in the factory position on top of the framerails without fenders. A "lowboy" would be the only slang term for a channeled, fenderless car that I know. It's my understanding that "high boy" comes from it being a "high body" car, and that the "d" just got dropped at some point, kinda like the "r" in "supe job."

Hmmm, I don't know if I should stay or go. I own a muscle car, BUT, I love the hotrods and kustoms of days gone by. I working on getting a project(waiting for the people to get back from vacation)to work on. I won't say what it is, till I'm definately sure I get it. I'll let ya's all know when I pick it up. later plmczy

    PS. Hell I think I'll stay[IMG]

  5. If anyone doesn't "get" what traditional is, they should read the rest of TJJ, not just the HAMB. Sorry, just the humble opinion of another newbie......

  6. My "car" goes to the extreme ratty ends of Traditional and most lovers of things traditional get queasy just looking at it. It leans toward the ratty side of traditional rodding that isn't embraced by all "traditionalists" in that it isn't finished, doesn't enjoy primer, let alone paint and the engine is tacky with original 1951 dirt and grease....
Just another interpertation of traditional that was in the minority, even back in the late 40's...
    But I like it.....

I am guilty of this and will stop now.

    Sorry for wasting space.

  12. So, a 66 Olds F85 more door's right on the border. I'm planning on traditional style, scallops, Starburst Moon discs, you know, the whole shebang....worthy of the HAMB or not?

Oh well, still got the '39 to be proud of anyway.

    HillBillytheKid,

The Dead Milkmen are cool, but are they traditional?

  15. I guess I'm at a bit of a crossroads. I've read(and re-read)your post Ryan along with the various responses to it and it only leaves me more perplexed.
Without even delving into the boogie-man word,"traditional" what would you consider acceptable topics for discussion:
    How to articles
Pix of rods and customs taken no later than 1955
    Safety related issues
    fill in your own
The one problem(if in fact it is a problem)that I see is this board caters to a wide spectrum of readers who not only share a diversity of age but of musical tastes and bodily decoration(or the lack thereof). In light of this I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an equal diversity of opinions about virtually any subject.
If you felt the need to post this, than I believe that you should set some ground rules for what can or cannot be posted on this site. It's almost like saying,"Now we're going to play a game of(fill in the blank)but I'm not telling you the rules because you should know them already".
That being said,I would like to make a few comments:
I guess I'm as guilty of anyone else on the board of responding to an off-topic post. However I have done so only in the hope of educating somebody so they might not make the same mistake(s)I have made.
I try to contribute information I think will be of benefit to younger members. If someone posts a question I think I can properly answer I will do so.
The car(s)I currently own are probably not considered "traditional" but I enjoy them and hope that others do as well although I will never lose any sleep if they don't.
The cars I enjoy are many;be they "traditional" rods and customs, low riders, antiques, sports cars, muscle cars,VW's,motorcycles,or even imports.
So I guess what it all boils down to Ryan is:If you want to keep the board,"traditional"oriented, then you might want to consider setting down some ground rules;otherwise I fear the o/t posts on tattoos, music, and the like will continue unabated and the membership will decline and rise with the tide.
In respect for your wishes,I will not make or respond to any more posts considered to be off topic.Actually I think it better if I just,"go away"

BTW I see that GERM is being conspicuous by his absence on this post.I wonder why?

    Sincerely Ray Smith aka safariknut

I agree Ray....nobody seems to know just exactly what Traditional is. No matter what you think the answer is, there always seems to be someone who thinks you are full of it. I agree with your list of wheeled things, but most on this board don't. My favorite car at the autorama this year was a toss up between an almost stock 39 deluxe coupe and the new tbird done by Chip Foose. I know what is traditional to me, and you know what it is to you. Don't leave if you enjoy anything here...what the heck...it's free!!

  17. Traditional: (tru-dish-unel) To me would mean rods or customs built by the same parts made in that era. Meaning, using 60's, 50's, 40's, 30's and even 20's parts and not the 2000's version of parts called billet. (never could understand that) if you want shiny...CHROME IT!!![IMG]

A traditional custom would be like the cars built by Barris in the 50's.

    I hope im right!

Well I want to reply to this but dont kow where to start.Maybe this will help bring something to the table. In my family tration or tradional means is to do what we all done for years. You know, put up a green christmas tree, hunt for easter eggs, have a beer on my b-day and stuff like that. This may not be the year era some may chose to box us in with but just keep it simple, straight forward and follow thru with a build plan.Traditional is also a frame of mind too.I think Ryan is correct in setting the record straight and put the HAMB back on track. Heck even as a youngin I knew right from wrong but when I got out of line my dad would put me back on track too.So thats mty 1 and half cents worth.....

  22. I know im still a newby but ive seen alot of this already, so im sure this wont be the last time this is an issue. I got on on this site to learn and share with guys of the same interest. NOT to look for a dating service or talk about muscle cars, & gold chain draggin crap. If thats what youre into than fine, we all dont have the same interest but please take it else where.

Oh, shit. And how many times did you say, "one of these days, I'm gonna have a garage." This may be a glimpse into my future.

I've dug a hole in a snowbank to crawl under and work on the tranny of my old 58 Superchief, but I didn't do it to be traditional oldbeet. I was just broke, young, and dumb. You suppose if Hirohata had a plasma cutter he would have used it instead of torching and butchering the frame of that lima bean green merc of his? [IMG]
