Thanks for clearing up a lot of questions for many of us out here, Becky. I've got three cars covered by Grundy and thankfully have not had to make a claim. Hope to continue our relationship for many years. Thanks, Don.
Well BeckyatGrundy, I think you just answered some of my concerns. I'll give you my business as soon as I can get some money for the premiums. Thanks, Amsvette
Grundy has my 2, Nothing but good things to say, Quit looking and just switch to Grundy. Great coverage, Good prices. My Farm Bureau agent could not believe their rates.
Been around awhile and have had Sneed Robinson, Haggerty and currently with Grundy. One claim with Grundy last year which was paid without a problem and allowed me to take the car to my repair shop of choice. Totally pleased with the service and price from Grundy.
I have a shop, where my car lives most of the time, inside, locked, building alarmed, recording video cameras, lovable but protective pit-bull, etc. If I take the car home, it gets parted in a secure lot, with no public access, but not covered. In the summer, this is most every weekend. We have meetings, shows, and car-hops all summer long, sometimes all weekend long. This saves me 20 extra miles of driving to go pick it up. Would this affect my ability to get coverage with Grundy, as it is parked, unpotected by a roof and walls, some of the time?
BeckyatGrundy, could you define "daily driver". Would 5 out of 7 days (meeting retired friends for breakfast) not be considered as a daily driver?
beckyatgrundy <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("postmenu_4803350", true); </script> Grenade Inspector Thanks much Becky & every one that commented on Grundy Auto Ins.for your input. I contacted Brad Eaton at Grundy Worldwide. He quoted me a price over the Ph. and E-mailed the forms, which I received today. Bob
x2! Grundy won't get my business for this very reason as well. They also rejected me because my "daily driver" was too old, even though it's not insured with them, AND I commute on the train. The kicker, since my car is in the US and I'm in Japan, my collector car never gets driven. Easy money for an insurance co. but unreasonable underwriting makes me question what they'll be like when/if I ever had a claim.
Hmmm, sounds like marketing and underwriting need a meeting Grundy underwriters told at least two other people in this thread the same thing.
Insurance companys have aliens called "actuarials" who do the risk calculating if I understand them correctly. If, and this is a considerable if, you could purchase liability coverage based upon your driving record, and then purchase coverage & comprehensive or "other than collision" for your own car(s) it would be a far better way to go. Ben Hur was the last guy to pilot his Rod and his daily driver at-the-same-time.
i have Grundy, and have had to make a claim. grundy had nothing to do with my claim, except my initial call to report it. everything was handled by Philadelphia Insurance,, honestly, i couldn't have been more displeased with them. i had to do ALL the calling and leg work to get anything going, i was lied to on more than one occasion, and the customer service was GARBAGE. I got better service from Progressive... (the kid who hit my 60 carried them) so just know, that when you must make a claim, you probably wont be dealing with the nice folks at Grundy. Hopefully you don't have to deal with a jack*** that calls you "dude" and "brah", who wont return phone calls, and tries to lie to you to cover his own ***.
Do it !!! I have posted lots of good comments on Grundy on various threads on this site,so I won't bother again, but I have had nothing but poeotive experiences with them and so have a few of my friends.
I switched from Hagerty to Grundy, Grundy was much cheaper with a higher agreed value without an appraisal. Grundy insured my 63 Vette that was a project car, I don't know if that was a mistake but they did.
Grundy is the way to go. They have the same coverage as Haggerty but with an average 45% savings. I am a licensed New York State Automobile Appraiser and suggest Grundy to all of my clients. P.S. - Maybe I should be getting some kind of commision. LOL.
Ok Becky, Here's a question. My daily is a 2005 Silverado. My special interest is a '62 Falcon. I have 300+ days of sunny weather here. I absolutely LOVE driving my Falcon. I may drive it to work two or three times a week, because I really, really enjoy it. Covered? How about: My truck has a dead battery. I decide to hop in the Falcon to go to work. Covered? This is the conversation that your represenative declined my business on. If this was an error on their part, I will give you a call at renewal time. If not, I think you need to be much more forth coming regarding the real usage concerns that will be raised with a new customer. You may recall this exchange last year: "Hi Scott, We have strict underwriting guidelines that prohibit the cars we insure from being used as "daily transportation."-- Running errands or driving to work unfortunately fall under that category. We encourage our insureds to drive their vehicles as much as they like for "pleasure and hobby use"-- taking cruises along the country side on a nice day, using the car to go out to an elegant dinner date, driving across the country to a car show, attending local cruise-ins... We allow all of those "pleasure and hobby uses"; however, our guidelines prohibit running errands and driving to work. I hope this clarifies our restrictions for you! I am in no way, shape or a form an underwriter. But, if you'd like a more detailed explanation, an underwriter can answer any questions for you-- we're here in the office from 8:30am to 4:45pm EST Mon-Fri. The number is 800-338-4005. Thanks for your inquiry! Becky" Quote: Originally Posted by scottybaccus Hi Becky, Denise (hotrodladycruiser) suggested I give you a shout. My wife recently purchased a 62 Ford Falcon. We submitted a request for quote and it was denied because I checked a box that she might drive it to work or the store. Is this appropriate? We purchased a "special interest" car because it's interesting to drive, not look at. I hear so many good things about Grundy, but this defies logic for me. I have insured it with my usual carrier for the moment, but they have issue with antique plates. I would prefer not to register it as a normal car due to more expensive registration and inspection requirements. Does Grundy want my business? Thanks, Scot Baccus"
i have done work (repair shop) for many agreed value companies. they all pretty much pay well compared to a traditional co. as its sounds like grundy has a good price and have members here, i think its worth checking them out skull
No, you are not covered while specificly racing down the drag strip, or around the circle track, or any other "exhibitions of speed" I think is how they phrase it. It is the only place specificly listed in my policy that I can think of that I am not covered. But if you have Grundy you would be covered all the way to and from the dragstrip AND while driving around the pits or whereever on site, just not on the track. At least that is how I understand the specifics after reading this section in my policy in detail many times.
Ive had my '32 Ford P.U and my '55 Chevy insured with Grundy for about 15 years, but havent had to file any claims. The yearly policy amount has gone up about $90.00 since Ive been with them, but it beats the hell out of the $1200.00 a year I was paying State Farm for the 2 cars. When I was looking into changing to Grundy, I asked my State Farm agent about them. He asked the name of their underwriter, and when I told him it was Chubb, he said that they were one of the top insurance underwriters in the country (at that time). Good enough for me!
Bingo, I drive mine to work and take the kids to karate, store etc, I asked both Haggerty and Grundy, and if you search you can see I ask the girl from Grundy the same thing. They will not cover if driven to work, store etc. I pay more but I know I'm covered. Ooops read Becky's post just know and it is right in line with what they told me.
Got both of ours with Grundy at the suggestion of my Agent who originally put me with Hagerty. There was a substantial savings for the same coverage. I do have one question. Anyone know if coverage extends to Canada, or if not, will they write a Rider. We do a couple of shows a year up there and had never thought to ask before.
