Spectacular! Thanks again, Ryan! I saw that too (brown car behind the white roadster). Surprising that Mr. Roddick didn't shoot this car, as it was so pretty, but apparently it was never very competitive. I guess he mainly shot his buddies and the record cars.
Simply stunning! These pics are up there with the best of them, a book would be awesome! Look at the Cox/Genat book 'The Birth of Hot Rodding the story of the dry lakes era' that is one of the best books ever on rodding and the photos were taken by an enthusiast/rodder walking the dry lakes pits.
This series is a cert. for the '08 top ten. The colour pictures bring to life and reality, the fantastic subject matter. Is the then little boy a hot rodder, even a HAMBer? He could'nt have been uneffected by his experiance on the salt all those years ago.
Been looking some more, to take it all in you know. She-it I love the rear three quarter shot of the SO-CAL tank (and the pickup) framed by the mountains, salt and sky. Bob really did have a good eye, great composition.

Really neat pics..... The pic of the boy staring at the the 777 streamliner is the BEST! Who is he???? He is US......looking on in awe of the action of the day.... The color pics really draw you into 'em.....I can almost feel the sun beating down on me, and hear the thunderous sounds of unmuffled flatheads at full song.....
This has to be in my top five favorite things I've seen and learned on the HAMB. Thanks to everyone involved for bringing us this. I wasn't paying attention at the first installment but now I've got to go back and look. I'm amazed the film was still good. Modern film doesn't last a decade if you don't develop it. Lucky for all of us.
And I figured all the cars were Ford Black, never thoguht there was so much color used. Thanks for this inside look, I can't wait for the next installment.

I'm not sure how to say this but I have always been a rodder at heart even though I have never owned a jalopy. I have furthur enjoyed anything about the salt and LSR's. I look at the photo's here and I am just thinking that Ryan and the Roddick family have blessed us with being one of the first people to view these historic photo's. Thanks, and Keep 'em coming! Just looking at the pics again. The lakes roadster at the back of Tom Cobb's coupe looks like Fred Carillo's. Also noticed Eddie Miller Jnr's Lakester in front of the 624c RPU

You guys made me go read all 4 parts again... I know I'm biased, but I personally believe the pictures in the Bob Roddick series are the coolest thing on the entire internet.
