If you have too many projects going right now don't take on another one...just some friendly advise. Nine times out of ten it doesn't go in your favor, and you barely make any money, if any at all.

Now, if that car is SUPER cheap, like less than $500, then yes, grab it. The parts are worth more than that. Just don't go into it thinking your gonna make good money just because it's an old car. Good luck.

Now figure how much it will cost to insure it, put the title in your name, license it, wait for the title, and then try to sell.

You could probably mow lawns in that time and make more money.

Keep you money, sell all the crap you have and keep the one project your like the most. Focus your time on the project you have, not the ones you COULD have.

One thing to remember, it's gamble because most of us believe real cars have two doors. We don't look at 4-doors and drool. So your market is limited to who like 4-doors and those that would just want the engine for $500. $1600 is probably a fair price and most likely not a lot of room for mark-up counting the time it will take to sell. You might get $2K or $2500. Keeping for an extended period of time to get more money eats.... time.

Heck, if it is a decent car you don't have to worry about selling it just how much. The younger generation doesn't much care whether a car is a 2 door or 4 door, just that it exists is amazing to them and they love what they have until some old guy tells them 4 doors aren't worth shit and then, well...you know.
A nice old 49 Olds 4 door here in my neighborhood was being driven around now and then and then put up for sale. I stopped and asked what the guy wanted for it, $5500. I left. SOmetime later my son saw it and I went with him to look at it. It was a flathead 6cylinder with an automatic, $5500. Pass.
The car sold to somebody from south of here for $5500 according to the owner. WOW. You just never know.

If you are the highest buyer for now, it will likely take a while for someone else to come along and want to pay more - just natural law of economics. if no one else is banging down the door to get to this car, it might be a good sign it is already at top dollar for now. Unless it is a super secret kind of thing, if it was such a good deal, it is probably already gone by now.

You might find the right buyer who lost their virginity in it and will pay what you ask just out of sentimental reason, or you might find a young guy who wants the car for its nostalgia.....what ever the reason, there is ALWAYS a buyer out there.

I read this thread and noticed quite a few grumpy old man comments. For a lot of the old heads, the nostalgia basically began with your generation, and with the way you treat young guys trying to keep things alive....its going to die with you. Like you have never funded a project with other cars? True, he may have posted this in the wrong forum, but if you notice his comment posts, hes pretty new. Give the kid a break, and actually give him some advice that will help him.

My advice on the car is to search on more than one forum and search in the "wanted" ads and see if anyone is looking for the car, or to see what the demand is on that vehicle/model/engine/trim etc. If you have time, your other option could be to part it out. Third option could be to pass on it if you dont believe you can benefit from the purchase. Hard to say without much info or pics. Either way, best of luck to ya and your projects!
