(Back in the 70's the hot rod term was still taboo. Street rod was used.)

A lot of clubs were popping up in the northeast. I don't know how it all got started, but, our club (Upstate Street Rod ***oc.) in Albany,NY joined NESRO in 1973 (as far as I can remember). Each club (10-15?) sent a rep to the monthly meeting to plan the annual Northeast Rod Run. I can remember the rod runs up until about 1979. The most fun was at the ******* Club Hotel in NJ (1976?). Other runs were to Kingston, NY, Sturbridge Village, Ma. and ? Guests like **** Wells and I think Norm Grabowski? This organization was a lot of fun. I don't know when NESRO ended. Why? (Our club split into 2 clubs and slowly faded away.)

Can anyone add to this? Club names?

  2. You might check with Mickey Lauria at Total Performance;I believe the club he was in(Connecticut Street Rod ***'n)was a member. Also the Vintage Wheels in Rhode Island. Can't remember the guy's name(**** something or other;affiliated with the Autorama in Boston).I also think Pete Van Iderstine from the New Jersey Street Rod ***'n.

EDIT:**** Royer from the Vintage Wheels

N.E.S.R.O. had a couple in Lake George in the pre "Adirondack Nationals" days, pre 48 only, when you actually could walk around the cars instead of being crammed in like sardines !

I went to the first one ( I think ) 1974 at ******* Club NJ Vernan Vally Resort and golf club. Had to bail a friend out of jail for stealing two golf carts and tearing up the golf course playing bumper cars on the greens. That was 1974, I have the dash tag and jacket embrodered patch in my collection . Wish I still had the 32 vicky that I drove to the meet, dumb me sold it in 76 to get married. we all know how that ended --devorce 18 years later.the memories!!!!!

I have a mug and patch from 1973, but they don't have where the event was on them.

Your right about 1974 for the ******* Club. That's a funny story about the golf carts. I'm sure there are a lot more others could tell.
1975 & '76 were in Kingston. 1977 & '78 were in Sturbridge. I have patches or papers for these years. Somewhere I have dash plaques.

Sorry to hear about the '32 and your marriage.

Attended one of the early meetings at Kevin Maloney's home in New Haven area, 1973(?). He drove a shortened '23 T touring w/a blown Olds.

  12. Kevin Mahoney was a silent partner in Total Performance, and his T was the basis for the hundreds of Total T's Micky & Jerry built.

Someone told me last night that my name was floating around on this forum. For the record, it's Kevin Maloney, not Mahoney, and I was indeed one of the orginal owners of Total Performance and the guy who headed up the Northeast Rod Run in its initial years. My T-bucket was not in fact a shortened touring but a single bucket with the back half of a second one grafted on to it. The guy I sold it to replaced the blown Olds with a small block Chevy (jerk!); however I'm not sure where the car ended up after that. Does anyone have that info? After about two decades of being out of the sport, I built a '32 Vicky five years ago that appeared in PPG's 2005 calendar. I now live in northern CT.

Hey Pitman! Thanks for the phone call last week; however, you didn't leave a call back number and I've been trying to figure out how to get back to you. From our phone log, we figured you were either from New Hamshire or Montana. I guess this is as good a way as any.

    Kevin.
I actually acquired your old T from ther second owner after you. When I got it, it was a severe basket case. He had dumped "that old junk" olds engine and attempted the chev conversion. I tried to find the original engine and trans, as I had great ideas on a restore of the car. Unfortunately, they both had disappeared. I had to pretty much rebuild the whole car. The mounts for chev were in wrong place, as was the trans mount and the frame was a mess. I rebuilt the Jag rear, rechromed everything and had to re do the body as he had tried "strip=ease" to remove old paint. I installed a 350 CI chev and turbo 350, installed power brakes , but did keep the original interior as it was in good shape.
As an aside, it was the best handling, and best riding T that I have owned, or been in ever. Please know, that if I could have, I would have kept the original drivetrain. I did sell the car to a Paul Gertz, drom . I think, New haven, and the last owner that I am aware of was the guy that owned Vic's Cafe on Quinnipiac Ave in North Haven.

Hey 41 Fastback, I was in Upstate Street Rods for several years.Topper was president, then Fred Hoyt. I had a model A sedan that was chopped and shortened like a Bantam. Were you also a member of Capital Area Rods? That formed after I moved to California. I drove my sedan to Kingston one of those years. I still have the dash plaques and an East is Neat ****on. Good times!

tb33anda3rd, Mine was primered red oxide. The guy that bought it from me painted it dark blue. He sold it to a guy in Virgina and that the last I heard of it. I saw another shortened sedan at Kingston but I don't think it was maroon and black.

I was there that year. I believe that someone from Down East street rods was the culprit. That was the last year for Sturbridge, as the hotel refused the run for the following year. I believe that was in 1980 or '81. The next year was in Wallingford, CT. I was in Shoreline Street Rods, from new haven, and may have been with you at the bar, along with a bunch of guys from CSRA

NSRA_0003.jpg Wow! time fly's My 1st one was 1971. That is my 5 window next to Kevin Maloney. And also photo behind him. It was in Rhode Island. The hotel had been moved over the bay into position. Can't remember the name. :(The next year it was also in Rhode Island on Goat Island. The last couple of photos I think were the following year in Kingston NY. Also the red T roadster. (Grannet Hotel)

  27. That black 32 roadster in NSRA0006 is Pete Van Iderstine's. I went to the 4th Northeast Rod Run in Kingston and I thought it was 1972.I still have a ****on from that one;it's out in my garage hanging up.I'll try to post a pic.

I was driving my newly completed 60 Chevy sedan delivery and hauling luggage for a couple of the guys from the M*** Street Rod ***ociation. One of the guys in the group had a stock Model A sedan that shed a crank pulley half way out and we had to keep stopping for water. Also seem to remember and accident along the way involving a sedan and a VW Kombi. The VW flipped over and tied up traffic on the Taconic Parkway.Don't think anyone was seriously hurt though.

There was a big article in the short lived magazine called Street Rod (published in Oregon by Bruce Miller) on that run.I think I still have a copy around somewhere;I'll see if I can locate it.
