i just received a NICSON dual intake manifold for our 53 chevy as a tip from one of my customers.i've never seen one and did a search and came up with a little info on the company, but not much...are they rare?i found more exhaust manifolds than intake..what are they worth?..are they rare because they suck?..it looks cool as shit, but i was just wondering.you always see the offy one's but not too many others.
    thanks,
    george

nicson is a good looking unit.rare enough, but the main problem is alot of'em are for 216 babbit-pounders not the good 235 full pressure engines.more folks run 235 cuz it costs the same as a 216 to build but more likely to stay together-(another) george

  3. Nicson stuff was made for boats. And seeing as there are many more cars than boats the other makes are much more common.

I think all Nicson stuff is pretty hard to come by. I got this on E-bay a while back, now I have to decide if I want to use it or my Moon one for my coupe:

Different is always good... I got one for my Ford six awhile back from vaphead. Anyway, have not found much info other then there does seem to be alot more Nicson boat parts than car (credit Voodoo...) but when it comes to cars, it seems they had a pretty big GMC following.

Yeah, I've got one, bought it from a pal for cheap. It was for a 216, I had to have the ports machined for my 235. It's definately a car manifold, not for a boat, the carbs are level. I saw a Nicson for sale in Daytona last week, very reasonable $180, but it was for a small GMC. I matched it up to a Chevy Offy intake, close but no cigar.
I have no clue as to their rarity, but I can tell you I have seen very few for sale over the years.
As far as I can tell, they're pretty much identical to Offenhauser intakes, which you can buy brand new for very little cash.

FWIW, it took a while to dial in, but I love the dual carb and Fenton manifold set up on my Chevy.

  10. ESnacky6 knows about this stuff cause I sold him one a couple of years ago.

I've got a Nicson Dual intake for a 235 Chvey. I'm looking for a matching valve cover. You are right you can buy an "Offy" but so can everyone else. The Nicson is cool.If I don't find the valve cover I would sell it. How about carb linkage. I've got one but is rather trashed. Anyone have any info? Have a good one !

I've seen two Nicson valve covers in my life. I bought both, sold one, and put the other one in the attic with some other choice stovebolt pieces.

I saw one nicson intake and carbs in the seven years that I had my chevy with a straight six. It looked really cool because its different, but I think the guy wanted like $600 or $800 at the pomona swap. I dont remember but I remember it was really clean but he wanted a lot of $ so I didn't get it.

oh yeah, it was a 3 deuce intake...

They usualy go for $300-$450 and poeple buy it not because it is better than a offy but to be different.

Nicson equipment is almost as rare as Tattersfield. Offy, Fenton and Wayne are replicaed so much that even the originals are not that expensive.

I've two GMC's one on the truck and one backup

Rare but not too rare If they were rare I wouldn't have two, right?

But I've got three NOS McGurk's too

Rare is the single carb they made...... seems like most that stepped up wanted a two-pot

    It's a good thing.

Offy's just a ''Go buy it item'' like Fentons boring but good only if you farmer instead of hunter

  17. I've got a 2 duece flathead Nicson intake, my dad pimped on an old merc when I was a wee tot.
rare, nicson made old hot rod parts in the early 40's, then started making boat goodies. I heard, supposedly, if its a nicson auto unit, it means it pre 40's ?

Being a Chevy 6 cylinder speed equipment fan myself, I also have a Nicson dual carb manifold. Like Heathen said the valve covers seem to be pretty rare also. It took me about 7 years to find mine and I saw one on eBay a couple of months ago that went for over $1500! But the real rare piece is the Niscon head. I've only ever seen one:

Nicson made 3X2 for a SBC also, starting in about 56 and running for a couple of years. They looked good, but a friend running one said it doesn't work very well. Maybe he just needs to run 97's instead of 2GC's.

If the carb studs are 2 & 11/16inches apart it will be for a 216. If the carb studs are 2 & 15/16 inches apart it will be for a 235. You can run the 216 manifold on the 235, but you will need stepped alignment rings for the intake ports - easily available.

  21. Not all 235's were full pressure, this was a '53 change, the sticks were still splash with solid lifters, the powerglide cars had pressure and (almost certain) hydraulics. And by the way, there was nothing wrong with the splash, but I think they all had poured bearings, which today are readily adapted to incerts.

The Nicson intakes are rather rare.
I have a Nicson valve cover and side cover that I am running on my
1949 235 ci. "high torque" six. See the photo.
Truck engine with a 216 head according to the numbers.
My intake is a McGurk, for the record.

Yeah I guess I would sell the intake. Really would like your valve cover. Make me an offer on the intake. Was it you that had the 5 carb set up? I've heard of them for the GMC 302 but not the 235.

Sorry I'm new to this board. Thought I would get direct contact with "Stove Bolt". Anyway Stove Bolt you can call me about the Nicson Intake 651-503-0388. Or anyone else that would be interested in buying.
