Thanks for posting this again, even though there may have been other threads on it. I never would have learned about it if you hadn't. There are no searches for, "Things I've never seen or known about yet. ".

If it's interesting, it will probably be seen several times. If I'm lucky, I'll get to see it one of those times. If he would have done a search and not made this new post, I'd have never seen it.

What? Do you guys just look for things to gripe at someone about?

I'll never understand this irrational annoyance for duplicate posts.

    Sincerely,

    Woody Quitcher*****en

    *warning* small thread hi-jack coming

this thread police at***ude of some on here (that goes for cars that aren't considered o.t., i.e. cl***ic jeeps and such, but at the same time allowing threads for other similar vehicles, i.e. suburbans.), is one reason i am considering dropping my account.
when was the last thread about this topic started and when did it go dormant? many times a search doesn't produce all the results everytime, an issue i've had with other forums as well.
you have to be fairly specific with what you're looking for or it floods your choices with threads that aren't relevent to what you're trying to get across. most of us don't want to search all the threads brought up for 2-3 hours to see if we're the first ones to post on a particular topic. maybe if the forum was a bit better organized it would be easier to find what people are looking for without having to use the search function.
now i could understand if the topic was brought up last week or maybe even last month, but nonetheless the at***udes brought on are uncalled for.

  6. 1: stick around you will be better for it.
2: my two searches took less than 2 minutes total. Not 2-3 hours, if you want some tips on searching I would be happy to help you, serious.
3: We were messing with the original poster but with serious intent. You can see he took it in stride and I think even got a chuclke in the end judging by his smilie.

Well Tjet this makes you one of the "real" HAMB guys now. You posted something cool that even brought out additional if from Roadwarrier32 (I for one would like to know where the particular plane is) and got slapped silly by the "It's been posted before" police.
If they haven't got you at least once you haven't posted anything interesting.

What the mods on other forums do is start MERGING all the like threads into one of them then all the info on the subject is in one place. The mods here could do the same thing here if they had the time and inclination and nobody would need to be wacked for having the enthusiasm to try and post information that is of interest to members :p

Tjet - Way to hang in there dude! The HAMB is a wealth of knowledge and worth sticking around for. I'm glad I didn't split the 1st time I got ball busted. I hadn't seen the SR71 stuff yet either and never thought to search it. Now I know what I'm gonna call my Buick if I paint it with DP90.

what i heard in the 70's is that mech's used to build bbc's for el caminos to aide in the landing of b1 bombers...maybe somebody can confure!

  22. So there's really no need to start any new threads at all I guess. Everything has been covered already and this joint should just be turned into an internet library. There sure are a lotta post police and wannabe moderators around here. Cut the guy some slack. It's a very cool bit of trivia even if 2 of you guys who've been here forever have seen it before. Stuff dissapears so fast here that I'm betting 90% of the members here are reading about this for the first time. So by your theory if I had sat down at my computer this morning and suddenly decided for some strange reason to type "SR71" into the search box on a traditional hotrod website I could have found this info all by myself ? Wow I had no idea... Are you ****in serious ? Or maybe if I typed in "nailhead" I would have stumbled across it a**** the 97,000 probable threads concerning nailheads that would come up ? You guys need a hobby besides picking apart every post you read. Here's a thought.. When you read something like this very cool post, simply mumble to yourself "old news" and move to the next post.. My bet is that MOST of us had never heard this before and find it very interesting.

Why don't the both of you become Alliance Members and support the site. This whole thing goes back to Ryan paying for the site out of his pocket and those of use who've been here a while trying to conserve and support the site. Bandwidth costs money. We've thrown auctions and everything else that we can think of to keep it alive. IF you like it so much support it. Otherwise deal with it. Those of us that have been here are kind of protective over it. We want it to stay around. So we continue to try and conserve the resources as well as keep things a little more together.

I think you are talking about the Dragon Lady. They used BBC El Caminos initially, but later switched to 5.0 Mustangs. They used them for spotting the wingtips. From stories I've heard, most of the rubber on the runway wasn't from the U-2, but from the El Caminos catching up to it.

    I hope this isn't a re-post ;)

Search is great, but as stated sometimes if you don't search the right words, you don't get the results, so you go ahead and post your subject. We have all done it. Seems to me alot of bandwidth could be saved on these threads if there was'nt all the debate over weather the poster used the search. If left as it was a few people would have had comments, and a few more would add info. Then the whole thing would be half as long.

Well said, I just clicked on this thread for the first time, never knew there were old posts on the topic. Always good to learn something new, and I like to see people taking the time to post threads for us to enjoy.:)
