what a sick feeling to see all your work and effort ruined like that. As far as the "GOLD CHAINER" comment, don't you realize they keep many talented car builders in business? A rod builder sure can't keep the doors open unless they have someone with the means to pay them.

It is truly heartbreaking to see those pictures and unfortunately the legal***** will extend for years. Having been through a storm like this at a Goodguy show in Indy, I can feel their pain. This is a material crisis and thankfully not much human damage.

What awful news. My heart goes out to the owners.
There is a whole new group with terrible attitudes on this board lately.
I cant understand the lack of consideration.

Race cars get wrecked every saturday night, not withstanding the recent earthquakes in the news. Happy no one got hurt, but this is really pretty minor stuff in the greater scheme of things. Earth quakes are truly heartbreaking.

WHEW that just*****s to see & hear of all the damage. Guess my stars were in alignment as I was going to take the 57 bird over to sell but looked at the weather & deceided to leave it in the garage & stay home. My condolences go out to all that suffered from this storm & they say more is on the way.

even though i'm not a fan of these auction houses but this really is tragic for these car owners as i can see this coming "sorry but acts of nature are not covered in your policy!" the carnage has only started. if my 70' chevelle SS convertable was sitting there with the top down in the rain i would gladly risk going to jail to get a cover on it.

I hope that it all turns out well.. Just afraid that this will be the end of the large out door auction events. Hope that it doesn't put a hurt on the large car show/ gatherings now ex. goodguys, power tours, ect. At least there hasn't been reports of any person being injured.

This is why a lot of people refuse to leave their homes when told to evacuate an area. The 'know it all' cops and emergency personnel won't let them back in when they could salvage their property while there is still time to do so.The nanny state our country has become won't let us take responsibility for our own actions. That is why they are not evacuating in California mud slide areas. They know if they leave they won't be let back in until their homes are ruined by the rain.

Breaking News: On the Scene at Russo and Steele

From Sports Car MArket (SCM)

Following the storm that destroyed two tents at the Russo and Steele Auction last night, SCM's Senior Auction*****yst, B. Mitchell Carlson, was on the scene at Russo this morning.

He reports that the Scottsdale Fire Department has control of the area right now and is****essing the safety of the auction site. Currently, Scottsdale Police have the auction grounds closed until at least noon local time.

Carlson was able to speak with Russo and Steele President Drew Alcazar, who stated there really isn't as much damage as most people think, as parts of the tents were lifted clear off the ground and away from the cars beneath them.

Alcazar and his staff are doing okay, all things considered, and he is happy no one was seriously injured. As for the rest of the auction, which is scheduled to go until Sunday, SCM Contributing Editor Colin Comer reports that nearly 100 contractors are ready to begin clean-up of the auction site and Alcazar has every intention of returning to business as usual tomorrow.

I just talked to Dave Shuten (who restored the Milk Truck) and he said that they still haven't let any of the owners back on the grounds yet. He too said he almost went to jail last night because the police wouldn't let him in to close up the cars after the tent blew away......

Just off the TV news NO ONE is going to be allowed on the grounds untill tommorrow. They interviewed a fellow from oregon that has a car that had a reserve of $275,000 with the engine exposed & as of now the rain & hail is coming down. NO BIG DEAL HA********* wonder what these wannabes would think if that car belonged to them

Wow I cannot believe that they will not at least them in to cover their cars. I hate when the "law" does what they "think" is best. At least send a crew in there to cover the cars for them.

19. Real bad situation. Really feel sorry for the people from out of state or for that matter out of the country, who consigned their vehicles that will not be sold because of this storm as the auction has now been halted and for that matter, their consigned vehicle is now damaged.

They are hold up in local Hotels & Motels, most have to get back home immediately after the auction and they will have no cash settlement on their vehicle.

Just curious, at Barrett Jackson, correct me if i'am wrong, your auction vehicle has been signed over to Barrett Jackson so they "own" the vehicle for the duration at the no reserve auction? Thus it would be their insurance covering any damage to the consigned vehicle.

Does anybody know> Was this a no reserve auction and do you "sign over" your vehicle to Russo Steele at this particular auction?

I think I read that Russo and Steele did have a reserve option so I am not sure.

Not all the cars are trapped under a tent.

I watched a couple of the news footage videos. They keep saying that "cars can be replaced"....how can that be that true if there was only 1 of them in existance?

I did a car rotator restoration of a 67 Coronet 500 383 convertible.
not concours by any means, but the best we were able, and pretty proud of it.
2 years later got caught in a horrendous hail storm. over $1800 worth of damage.
I was pretty devastated to have to do all that work over again to remove the dents.
I was insured, but I had a collision shop do the work, after I removed the chrome.
I knew I could not match the paint, and I was totally drained of ambition, with the main portion of my garage******** with another project.

This past year, here in Western NY, we have had a lot of serious bad weather at car shows, one of which I was running at the time. Amazingly, a torrential downpour with high winds for a solid hour, then sunshine. Not one car left.........just wiped them down and we continued judging.

Carlisle has been hit with some horrendous tent lifting weather at some of their events.
I sympathise with the owners...........

That's pretty horrible! And then to have to wait for 2 days? I'd go insane.

I have to say though, I don't quite get the not posting photos out of respect to the car owners. They're not dead family members and the news is showing them plenty. Post 'em up.

FYI their motto is: all reserve all the time
http://www.russoandsteele.com/press_release.html?prid=49

Which is sorta stupid IMO - can't consign a car with no reserve?
Or maybe consign it with $1.00 reserve.....

The problem is ignorant comments like this. The "know-it-all" people realize that life is far more important than the property you are trying to save. Then you go and get yourself into a situation in which think understand even though you don't. Then responders take risks to recover you when things get crazy. I've been there, done that.

Can you imagine what the leather interiors look like if a window was open or broken? Not to mention the convertibles with their tops down. How about a canvas whipping wildly and grinding dirt and debris into your paint?

Rat rod owners wouldn't mind a bit; just more patina. I doubt there were any rat rods there.
