The photo of Hank Arnold and the Twister was from Hot Rod magazine, (jul 63) . Someone mentioned Hank was killed in this car, but actually was driving Harry Anderson's sprinter #5 the night of his accident, Jun 17 1967. Hank had sold the Twister to Mr. Gibson of Phoenix 3 years before his fatal accident. The Twister was later located in Albuquerque years later and restored to the 1963 Hot Rod mag photo opt by Bob Hardee. The car has been used the last 25 years to promote the annual Hank Arnold memorial races held in Phoenix and Tucson. This year will be the 43 annual Hank Arnold memorial. Don Brown

Great dialogue here guys....it is amazing to hear stories "from the horse's mouth" about the days when technology was overtaking grassroots racing. It is still happening...but today it is the Street Stock that is quickly becoming the dinosaur. I keep running mine, but the rule makers make it a little more obsolete each year.

And Frank...glad you enjoyed my AutoCad drafting work on your chassis plans. Someday I'd like to build a "Hager Chassis" to put under my butt.

This is George Kent's "super speedway" Modified. And yes, ugly.[IMG]

  5. Amen to that, that's all some of us have left. What's past is past and it's nice to take a look back now and then, for me, it's once a day right here on this thread. You've done a great job son. Better then your old man.

Looks like Pocono when they ran the mods on the superspeedway.

First post. I have a couple of photos of Fred Harbach I would like to post but I can't get them to show up. They are save at photobucket.com. Islip fans. Did anyone take part in "The Anything on Wheels" as a kid in the late 60's or early 70's? And are there any photos of the event? Joe.

  11. welcome Joe. If you have photobucket, click under the pictures, a box should pop up, if not click the photos and hit the generate button copy and paste the "images for message boards" link and post here!

I was there that sad day in Martinsville and took pics of a number of cars. I remember seeing Charlie's new RE car and thought "I'll just get a bunch of pics of that one after the races without the fence in the way..."

Never got a shot of it. Still remember the wreck and being told by Ed Spencer (Jimmy's dad) that Charlie didn't make it. I was planning on staying overnight and driving to Florida in the morning, but couldn't sleep and drove all night.

Here's another shot of the X90. I think it's from Riverheads Old Timer Show but I'm not sure. Joe.

Gotta admit tho, Richie's car was one of the best looking of that bunch. And it had all 4 fenders.
