I wonder how well the double wheezer thing worked for the Herbert rig.

The double-blown Olds digger belonged to Todd "Doc" Raleigh, who shifted to a more traditional blown Chrysler motor by '59, and later put his motor in Jim Ward's fueler. So the double-blower setup probably did not work too well, but give these guys in the late '50s a lot of credit for innovation, something lacking in the latest generation of NHRA top fuelers.

Found this thread after going through the vintage Sprint Car thread, great stuff. I've only been through the first 90 pages but it does appear that modern pics may not be appropriate. I figured I would check and make sure I have a bunch of stuff from the last couple of years that are high quality digital images. Here's an old picture handout I scanned of Gary Beck in the interim.

  8. No modern stuff.
Around here, rear engine dragsters are modern stuff too.

Well, the bubble gum is all gone but pix are still around.
After I built the model cars I crammed an M-80 firework
in them & simulated a top end explosion. Well, it was fun

Well I found an old copy of Drag Racing Pictorial and scanned a bunch of those in today so here's a couple that should fit the thread.

I walked away from the blowover as did Don Prudomme the following year.
Shirley, the next year did not fare as well as we all know.
Pretty wierd that three years in a row there were blowovers at that event.

We ran the rebuilt car for about three or four years mostly match racing with the "Pro fuel dragster associates". The rebuilt car was awsome !

I have not run a race car since.

Damn, if those days weren't fun. Nothing today even comes close to what we used to see each and every weekend....
