Is it better to leave the car on the chassis when replacing the floors or can it be done when body is off the frame and on a rotisserie? Bill
The car is a 1955 Cadillac Series 62 four door. Floors are pretty much flintstone style in the front, now too bad in rear. Bill
I would think it all depends on how rigid the body is without the frame. If the rockers are solid, inside and out,and the trunk and firewall area is good I think off the frame would be secure. But if you can do a good job from the top with it on the frame, that might be the safer way.My 2¢
Thanks 56don, the outer rockers are soft too so I guess I am better off doing it on the frame. It is amazing how many body mounts these cars have!! Bill
Do what you can while it's on the frame... then finish the bottom out when you get it on the rotisserie!!
yep try to get everything tied back together before you lift it off the frame, save a bunch of head scratching and tape measureing later...
I'm planning on putting the body of my 4 door '37 Buick on a rotisserie. I'm in the process of building one. I want to blast the underside as well as the top so I need to be able to rotate the body. My car's front floor and door posts are pretty weak so before I pull the body I'm going to weld bracing across the door openings and across the body, side to side to keep everything where it should be.
