"so damn closed minded and intolerant" pretty big brush stroke for not knowing anything about the organization or people behind it.

"in spite of what many seem to think, NSRA is a business. As a business, the owners are en***led to do what they think is in their interests." You are absolutely correct, no one is saying they can't exercise their rights. All this organization is asking for is support of a new pre 49 group. If you don't want to support it, that's OK, "it's you who chose not to be a part of the gathering."

Any new business proposal has to consider ...."what am I bringing to the table.......who/where is my market?" I suppose that is what your post is asking. Good. Just seems you want to argue with the answers your are getting. Carry on and best wishes.

I first joined NSRA in the late 70s because I grew up in the 50s and liked hot rods and per 49 cars. Nothing wrong with latter model cars but to me under 49 are still Streer Rods. I'm sure you don't complan that you can't take your tri 5 to a Mugtang meet.

I go to car shows to look. I don't give a **** what they call it or what cars are allowed or not allowed. If I decide to show a car at this year's NSRA Nats here in town I'll join at the sign-up table, don't join unless I'm going to be there.
If you stop to talk to me about my car that's fine, but if you stop to whine at me about the event rules or ***** about somebody's car that you saw that you don't like, I'll turn my back and walk away from you.

The only reason I pay my dues (NSRA) is to enjoy a great weekend in August at the KY fairgrounds. Drink some beer, see old friends, shoot the **** and tell some lies. If the guy next to me wants to turn down his boom, boom radio and join in he's more than welcome.

YES YES YES!!!!!!! We have 1 or 2 small rod runs in our area and from what I hear they are just like what NSRA (and lots of other club runs) used to be like! Thats what Im hoping the ASRA will bring to the table.

    Good point Roothawg!

I like to go to big shows so I can see a lot of stuff. I like all kinds of cars, racing, etc.. I don't care about what year vehicles are admitted, or about raffles, or prizes, or awards, etc.. I do like to have as many vendors as possible. Goodguys and NSRA and all the other groups are just promoters - they don't represent how I feel or my personal lifestyle - nor should they, eh? Regardless of how many groups you are in, you are not a voting member of any of them. Pay your dues and go, or not. The more shows the better for me. The chaff will eventually get blown away in the wind. Gary

When I was a kid we used to go to them every weekend. Most times we didn't even have a finished car. IT was a fun event and was free to the public. The emphasis was on driving, not showing. I think that is where people have gone astray.

    I agree with Holeshot

look at the Winter Hamb Meet and greet that happened this past weekend - a LOT of people showed up............
this is why I think mega shows will eventually crumble - people simply are running out of money for all the different things they have to pay for......
    lets see
it is time for me to renew my NSRA membership.........
    and
I have a cable bill that I have to pay this month as well

I only have a limited amount of money these days - so I will hold off on the NSRA membership.......

it gets set back in the pile of bills that are not as important and then just keeps getting put off later and later.

Meanwhile I am having just as much fun as going to smaller shows like Symco, S**** Drive, Road Block Rust Revival etc that are totally gr*** roots.

I think people will always want to "belong" to some kind of organization but I have never been able to pinpoint exactly what people get out of paying the membership fees to these organizations.............
if a person is able to go to multiple events - then it pays for itself - but a LOT of people I know only get to go to 1 event all year........

So what exactly will people get out of the American Hot Rod ***ociation?

I am NOT trying to be a jerk here - I am actually curious about what people get out of their memberships.

I do realize these giant functions can not get set up by themselves and as a result you need to compensate someone/staff to get everything done correctly. SO some dues go to that.......I look forward to hearing what ya'll have to say

Everyone does not like the same car/truck, and thank God for that. If that was the case everyone would have a 32 Ford. Now its not that I
dislike 32 Fords, but it would get pretty boring looking at a bunch of 32
Fords. I am 45 years old and I grew up hotrodding. I am a little more
partial to the 50's and 60's cars/trucks. Thats because thats what I grew
up with. I have built or helped build several cars over the years. I have built 3 Tri-5 chevys 1 58 chevy pu. 1 30 A model, and a few more ****ered in. My dad still has the A model that we built about 15 years ago. My point is that Hot Rodding is a Hobby, and A life style. What difference does it make if its a 40 Ford or a 65 Chevelle We should all stick togeather. I tend to look at workmanship more than I do the model fo the car. To say that if its not a pre 48 its not a Hot Rod is stupid. We all have our favorites. I personally would not Build a 30-32 Ford, but that
does not mean that I can not admire the work and craftmanship that
went into building one. I now have a 55 chevy. The car is 55 years old
How old does it have to be? I have a 34 Ford That i have started to work
on. I have'nt decieded if I will build the car and sell it, or keep it. but I do know one thing. If i do finish the car and keep it I will not attend any
pre 48 Shows. If your going to cut out part of the Hot Rod crowd you can
    count me out.

  19. I believe a FEW Posters on here have a problem with reading comprehension. Re-read my Post and comprehend what it says! Comprehend what my definition of a "Gold Chainer" is. I did NOT say it is "anyone who buys a pre '49", nor did I say that anybody that buys a "Whole, driveable car" is a gold chainer! Read and comprehend...if you have a problem figuring it out, by all means PM me and I will do my best to put it in simpler terms. Other than that, I've made it a pratice to never argue with a Computer screen...

As a child rodder of the 70's I have the same fond memories of going to small shows. Poker runs, scavenger hunts, crazy games, dunk tanks, and even an occasional wet tee shirt contest made for a great weekend. For the most part now days ya just show up and sit yer *** in a lawn chair. So I rarely go to small shows anymore.

I guess it's for that reason I like big shows like BTTF's or GG's. At least you can spend most of your time walking around a large fairgrounds checking stuff out. If NSRA would have kept moving the location of the Nats instead of always being in Louisville, I would have probably stayed a member and 1992 wouldn't have been my last one to attend.

If the "new" ASRA can get itself organized and put on a decent Pre-49 show, I'd probably go to it......unless they hold it in Louisville.

I have a 70 Torino convertable as well and have NO intension bringing it to streetrod event. Different cl*** of car all together in my opinion. Nor would i take my 28 rpu to a muscle car event or a antiquers event. I'm talking big national events. Too many cars. When i take my 28....i want to get lost in a sea of like minded cars under 49. I'll put a different hat on for the 70 Torino.

<!-- Page***le:Begin -->Welcome. We hope you are visiting our new web site to find out more information about our new organization, or should we say "your" organization. This new group the American Street Rod ***ociation is being created by street rodders for street rodders. Due to the recent changes to the other national organization a group from the midwest decided it was time to have a street rod only organization. We feel the pre 1949 enthusiast is being forced into a car culture melting pot of tri-five chevys, custom mrec's, 1970's muscle cars and mini trucks. We have nothing against these groups, we enjoy a custom or a 55 Chevy as much as anybody else, but it's our intention to have street rod only events.

If your interested in supporting our effort or want to join the organization please complete and e-mail the form on the next page. Your e-mail will give us a list of contacts for future use. We are not asking for any dues at this time. We are in the process of establishing our by-laws and will develop a dues structure at that time.

It is our intent to write our by-laws in such a way as to give the dues paying member a voice, (vote) in any changes to the by-laws after they are approved by the core group. Then the member knows, before they pay any money, what the organization's intentions are and how it is structured.
The by-laws will be published on this web site after approval by the core group.

National Street Rod ***ociation, American Street Rod ***ociation, Good Guys Rod & Custom ***ociation..................Don't they all sound kinda' "crisp?"

And why should I join the NSRA and pay to get my car in a "Nationals" event just like the spectators do? I'll tell you why........$$$$$$.

If you wanna promote hot rodding then get in your car and drive it. Why does everybody need rules, regulations, annual membership dues and somebody telling you where to be next weekend? Do your own thing!!!

I live 2hrs from the Louisville fairgrounds and will not go back.....have been there five years in a row. I to like the pre 49 and it will never be the same now. I can save my money and go to a car show at our local fairgrounds and see a little bit of everything.
I go to the Frog Follies now which is just a couple of weeks after the NSRA in Lvl...really like it.
