Your dad's truck is killer down to the hubcaps. It is 100% kickass. One question, why three fog lights and two rear view mirrors on the driver side? Just wonderin'. Oh, and did I mention, I love that truck.

  19. The second mirror on the top of the door is what's known as a passing mirror. They were supposed to allow the driver to see forward around the car ahead of you, and made driving on the old two lane highways safer. This way, you could see if there were any cars coming from the opposite direction before you swung out to pass the car in front of you. The owner of this truck has managed to find some fun rare stuff to dress up his truck.

Most guys building bombs always like to run all the rare accessories they can. There used to be an option through about '48 (on Chevy cars) just before the new bodied '49s came out, and up until the new bodied mid '55 Chevy trucks came out, called a passing light. They were usually much bigger diameter than foglights and were usually a "regular" bulb, similar to a headlight, only brighter, more like a hi beam.

If you had a passing light on your car, when you would pass another vehicle on the old two lane highways, you would turn on this light to warn oncoming drivers that you were passing another car and you are in their lane.

The third light on juanz1947's Dad's truck isn't quite as big as alot of passing lights I've seen, but I'm guessing that's what he is doing with the extra light.

I've included a picture of a '39 with a passing light for comparison.

BTW terd ferguson, you're right, this truck is killer. A bomb style pick-up is on my list of must haves one day before I leave this world...............E

A buddy has a passing mirror on his Kustom '53 Merc, a one piece deal. The pic was kind of blurry on this truck, I thought there was one mirror up top and one down low, to be used together somehow. But after staring at it and after your post, I think I see the top is the one piece passing mirror like you described and like on my buddy's car with another seperate mirror down low for looking behind you.

And thanks for the info on the passing light. That was something I didn't know about, but makes perfect sense. Were the fog and passing lights tagged like the GM tagged Unity spotlights? Or were they all just plain Guide lights (or another manufacturer)? Just curious, I admit I don't know a whole bunch about them.

And I love and respect the bomb guys with their endless hunt for that one last perfect accessory. Thousand dollar compasses and tissue dispensors and what not. They sure did make some cool accessories way back.

I'm really digging this bomba AD with less than shiny paint. It seems they're always some two tone shiny brown with wire wheels. This one is a little different from the norm, I love everything about it. I have a TF truck, if I had an AD I'd want it to look just like that one (minus the swamp cooler).
