It may not win, but this is my favorite. They don't need to be flashy to be beautiful.

I am biased here on this as Sydney Allen is my neighbor here in East Texas...His red roadster ,to me,with the steelies, fenders, hemi,is picture perfect....If like all his other fine rides,Art Christman usuall does his builds..dont know on this one

I wish it would be one of the traditional cars, but in the goofy carshow world my instincts say they'll pick the 33 with the flashy display.

I know this'll start another*****storm, but I'm so tired of 32's. That Auburn on the other hand is totally amazing.

That Auburn is a real looker! I'd still pick it to win, but would have made a different choice on the grill. Good to see more traditional builds again.

No. I seem to rememeber a number of years ago a car that had competed for the previous years Ridler and lost won the AMBR. And some cars like the Ala Kart have won multiple times.

If you look underneath the chassis on the Auburn repro is painted flat black and, I think, the underside of the fenders too - I doubt if that will do anything much for the points tally. There are no mirrors to show the underside of the car - why would that be?

The Auburn is stunning, I'm just not feeling the Caddy hubcaps, I realize those are iconic, but they are the wrong era for this car. 30's/40's custom styling with 50's wheelcovers, it's almost like thwy were an after thought.

The engine is what made this car for me! Yes it's a SBC, but I'm a big fan of them! And the fact that it has Hilborn stacks (mech or electronic doesn't matter to me), vette covers, and Fenton-style manifolds just does it for me. My dream power plant, no matter which car its in!

But that's why the rod scene is so great...there's something for everyone, no matter what your tastes are!

Great show coverage by all.....hope to be there next year in person!

A statement that you can give a repro body some really bad fake patina and win ???

Floyd William's car looks like very other car that comes out of So Cal's shop. I don't get why this excites people. I guess that's why So Cal is still in business.

I never said So Cal built it, I said it "looks" like every other car that comes from that shop....

Well, you didn't say it directly, but you implied that it came out of the same shop. Then the fact that made a statement that talked about So Cal being in business sealed the deal on that misunderstanding.

Kirk! the GNRS is not an ISCA sanctioned show. But I still don't believe Munz's 32 has a prayer. It is cool, fake patina or not and a pretty good full scale copy of Stan's sculpture.

If recent history of this award prevails (unfortunately) that red 33 with the zillion dollar display will probably win. Btw it was built by Scott with the squeeky voice that won the award with something similar a couple of years ago:eek:

The Sydney Allen car is superb. Nothing overdone ("over-Moaled" tm) and executed to a standard most of us wish our cars achieved. Man, I walked for 7 hours yesterday to bring you this truth. vic

Based purely on the amount of time I spent gawking in front of each of these cars yesterday...the Auburn is the clear winner. I did get a chance to speak briefly with Chip Foose, I asked him when they would be able to schedule my 50 Merc for an "overhaul"...he was noncommital!

Not ISCA sanctioned, but basically the same judging procedure. Modifications=points, most points win. Sure wish cool or esthetics were categories for points...it would win, hands down.

So does anybody know for sure about the Auburn ? Is it plastic or was it real steel?

I'm no car showy type guy, so whats an 'AMBR'?

Looks like they spent a lot of time on that Auburn, kinda liked the gold rpu too - but that was about it for the show-types, the roadster with the Ardun flattie looks well built to me.

AMBR stands for America's Most Beautiful Roadster. Very prestigious, very tall trophy.
