Hunnert Car Heads-Up Design Contest 2010! - Prizes!

The Hunnert Car Heads-Up is a traditional drag race event that grew out of the Hunnert Car Pileup. We're going to have event t-shirts and stickers again, but we also want to have a special, water-slide decal that's ONLY available to the contestants who actually race, just like in drag racing's heyday.

So, we're holding a contest. We want a HAMBer to design our racers' only sticker. All entries will be considered. We'd like something that has that vintage feel to it, incorporates the name (Hunnert Car Heads-Up), the date (May 8, 2010), location (Great Lakes Dragaway, Union Grove, WI), and somehow says that whoever has the decal raced that day (e.g., "I raced at...", "I earned my bragging rights at the Hunnert Car Heads Up!", etc)

    Some other parameters:

Size: The decals will be 3"x3" (square) or 3"x4" (horizontal). Your choice! Design accordingly.

Colors: 3 colors. Dark Blue, Orange and Cream are the official show colors. But if you have something you want to try and those colors just won't do to express your creativity, then we are open to that.

Artwork: art on a napkin is cool, but we need to be able to have it printed. Illustrator, photoshop, etc preferred, but we can work that out if we choose your design.

Post your designs here by February 28th and the Chrome Czars will pick a winner in March.

The winner will receive an event shirt and stickers, as well as some of the racer decals, and a Gift Certificate for a set of Victory Header Flanges and a Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle Shop Coat.

what about a link to this thread in the next friday art show? or do you wish to hide this from the creative types so the rest of us nosepicken hambers have a shot at it?

  8. This is pretty crude, but you can fill in your info and that proves you ran. Kinda like a timing tag/sticker.

Yeah, I was thinking about posting it in the art show, too.

Thanks Inlaw! We don't want to copy GLDA's copyrighted material, but that is a good place to build a new design from. The Heads-Up is a separate event held AT Great Lakes, and deserves it's own logo though

  10. damn cool deal, why can't i draw more than a stick person...

can't wait for the show, almost got my seat belts in my truck so i can run it this time

That time slip is FUCKING COOL!!!

  12. My point with that time slip was to inspire someone that actually has talent. I have none. I couldn't agree with you more. I think if someone could build on it, it would be a cool decal to have especially with your time and speed on it.

    Hey Django,
Here's what I was thinking. If it's what you're looking for, I'd need to refine it... Thanks for the fun! I need to get up to the Grove, it's been too long.

Thanks Ed! Who else wants to play?

  16. Love those water slides!!!

Chad, here's a tweaked version of your previous effort coupled with one of those wonderful House Industries images from the Rat Fink collection, borrowed some of their type as well. Figured it wouldn't hurt to keep your branding. The varnish will turn cream as it ages. Was originally going to steal Norwell's "Boilin' da Hides" but I figured most folks will only burn rubber on one tire.:D

That first one is awesome, Larry! The next 4 are just red Xs. :(

    Keep 'em coming!

  19. I only did one so far. I'll keep trying. I'm digging Ed's idea.

Couldn't see the X's on my preview but found 'em and deleted them.

    Chad,
Great idea. Thought I would post my Dad's original Muncie Dragway logo that maybe someone can grab some inspiration from! Have at it!

    Great work!

Since I'm part of the selection committee, I can't submit anything, but I drew this up for fun.

Hmm... can't get it uploaded. I'll have to try again later.

I had to upload it to MySpace.

  28. Nice Mike. Great job. You need to do an intro. There is a link to the intro page here:

FYI to everyone. Mike Tessmer did the Symco Shakedown poster for me. We expect to see some awesome stuff from this dude!!! If anyone needs any design work, send him a PM. He does great work. Just as long as it doesn't take too much of his time away from Symco stuff. LOL.

Nice. Rear engine is a bit late for our show though. I love the art though! Great job.

And make an into before the religious catch you. :D
