Because of thinking like the above statement I would most definitely use the nailhead and the 6 deuces as there just are to few folks out there anymore that "dare to be different". Good luck on your build and if they think a 406 will hammer wait till you light up that nailhead, eh?

The second ranchero pic is crazy cool!

Yes, exactly! The nailhead may not be high revving, but they have so much torque down low, you can pull your house off its foundation with enough traction!

Rad, but "strange bird" is stickin I tell ya!

Buick is best, forget the rest!!!

This is a bitchin' build. I have a Buick powered Opel and a Buick powered Stude truck...

With the name you have chosen, a "bird" emblem from the front fenders of a 65 skylark might be a cool addition.

PS. Re the cool red steering wheell. That's from an early
'70's-mid '80 General Motors product, probably an Olds
Cutlass or Buick Skyhawk. Did someone swap in a GM
    steering column at some time???

Go with the Nailhead because no one will expect it, plus you'll piss off all the "correct" experts.
Call it "Insanity" because who would be be insane enough to put a Nailhead in a Falcon? Oh... maybe you. LOL! GO FOR IT!

I don't think you would have convinced "TV Tommy Ivo" that nailheads were obsolete by '62. He was running 4 of em' in the "Show Boat". Strange Bird, is a "gotta do"! It'll be perfect!:D

Ha...couldn't believe this thread when I saw it. My buddy found an old drag car sitting in a driveway about 10 years ago...'60 Falcon with a 322 nailhead, Muncie M22 "Rock Crusher" trans and a Ford 9" rear...the car was even white! It had been laying a long time, body was rough and he parted it out. I bought the motor...had some no-name finned rocker covers, Isky springs, retainers, remote oil filter adaptor and a home made steel bellhousing/scattershield. Best part on it was a goofy looking two-four Offy intake that had these offset carb adapters that hung the carbs out over the rocker covers like a crossram. Sold the motor a couple years later to another friend who still has it sitting in his shed.

I have an old magazine around here somewhere that has a '65 Mustang with a nailhead that was a race car. Is the name "Buford" too lame? Nailheads are my favorite engines, so I say go for it,

Possibly in Canada, but none of the U.S. GM products had steering wheels that bolted to the hub in that fashion.. I suspect that red wheel is either an aftermarket Grant or Grant "knock off"..

Surely someone here will remember the first generation B/G Falcon, Hot Rod Magazine feature car (green ink era) with the injected, 396 cu. in. Pontiac motor? I haven't been able to Google up any pictures.

Being a Falcon/Comet nut, my first reaction was "Ick." But, I'm picturing it riding high with radiused rear wheel wells, flake, and goofy gasser lettering on the sides, and now it doesn't seem so bad. Odd, but not so bad. And an engine can always be changed down the road, so what's the big deal.

I'd vote to keep the side trim, but if you remove it, do it carefully and don't screw it up, because '62 Futura side trim is hard to find and worth some bucks. There's a 3/8" nut at each end of each stick, inside the body panels, sometimes one in the middle of the doors and 1/4 panels, and the rest is snap clips. Save the good clips too, guys needing trim always need a few clips.

The wheel was there when I got it. Its has no brand name on it, and its at least 20 years old. Column is stock.

    Update #3

Some neato parts showed up on my doorstep.....

I canned the econoline axle and purchased a new tube axle with no drop.

An awesome pair of 30x10x15 HURST slicks. I love me some piecrust!

They stick out the perfect amount out back. mmmmm.

I scored a full set of 15x8.5 Shelby Cal 500 Slots on CL for Cheeeap! Anybody looking for a pair?

I'm looking for a set of front 15x4's to match. In a perfect world it would have some american mag spindle mounts, but unless I trip over some at a garage sale or something, it's not likely. I have a pair of ford steelies that will work for now. The front will have Hurst super cushions.

Got the shock towers cut away....still a bit of trimming left to do.

    Trim all pulled off....

    More to come.......

So........swing shackle in the front or in the back?:D

Double check your mockup for the length of the mill to fit the fan and waterpump between the firewall and the radiator. My 61 is shorter underhood than a 62 and the small block mopar has a long pump, so i decided to have it poke through the firewall about 6 inches. Setback for the win!

Im setting the engine wayyyy back. The rules stated you were allowed 10% of the wheelbase as a setback (measured from front axle center to first sparkplug) Since the wheelbase is 109", that's a 10.9" setback. The engine will pretty much be underneath the dash.

so you're gonna set the plant back 10% or 10.9 inches from the factory location of a nailhead falcon? lol. just kidding. I dont know how far back mine is compared to the flyweight 6 that left, but i was about a 32nd from the firewall with the pully bolts tickling the elctric fan.

I heard that was one of the main reasons (more setback)for dual plug hemi heads, as the second plug was not yet needed at that level of technology-but that could be pure myth.

I decided on about a 6 inch back. might still be too much set back for me to use a traditional air cleaner but we'll see. You using the stock steering box? I've converted a 65 Chevy G10 van axle to side steer with the falcon box and i still need to change to a rear sump to make room for the drag link.

Set back that far, you wont have starter interference issues like i was (mopar starter on driver's side), but now my steering shaft is right in front of the rear exhaust port. I see ujoints in my future, lol.
