Found out today that it was ran with the wheels it has .

Henry said it DID NOT have a chute! And just a push bar, no starter.

    I'm checking with Guffey today.

    Thanks

Just got off the phone with a guy that thinks he has a (J * 2) 327, Oct, 1962 327 four barrel motor with twin towers on them? He going to check on them for us today. If anybody knows of these let me know.
    Thanks

So, Has anyone seen or have pics of an old ROLLER STARTER set up?

I'm looking for one or need to build one for this car.

I just heard about them today and think we need one!

Pm me if you have info on one.

    Thanks

I believe they were built into the ground at the track

I'm talking about the one that uses your tow rig tire to power it in the pits.
    Cool pic! Thanks Mike

For cooling, I wonder if you could run one of those finned tube auxilliary coolers they sell now... run one on the outside of each frame rail, between the frame and the body. One end plumb into a block freeze plug, the other plumbed into the water port on the intake, done on each side of the engine.
It'd shed some of the heat in the water, without a pump and radiator.

It's hard for me to believe too, I've ran 10.02s and thats fast! But they are looking for the time slips and I'll post them as soon as I got them.

The car is very light! And had a 292 (283 .060) that was built good for, back in the day.

My kids car weighs 1900 lbs w/377 runs 10s, so it's possible.

We're looking for a 292 ci to run, we are keeping it the way it was!

I tried to search to see if it is. I looked but can't find anything or pics? I like to know what seat it is! So if anybody can tell us, that would help.
    Thanks

  15. The only pit roller/starters I've ever see were for bikes. In almost 40 years of going to the drags from coast to coast I've never see a unit large enough to start a rail or comp coupe like your's.
Sticking with race gas is a good idea. With alky the tracks will want a huge ($1,000) fire bottle system.

just put a starter in it and use a hot box to fire it up,,roller is no god if you stall or something else and your starter is back on the trailer

Also on teh trailer your starting it up in the pits,,does you know good when you have to go sit in line,,as you can't just sit on idle

Don't want to add a fire bottle, we will try gas first.

True! But still like the keep it old school feel, we'll see. I'm sure we'll get sick of pushing it.

  20. Pushing it is a pain, and for that reason I am going to add a battery without harming the car. It will be a bolt on. Totally removable. Here is my crew. We are in the staging lanes at Da'Grove. AJ is my pusher. It push starts pretty easy. After a run, he drives the four wheeler down the return road and pushes me back. As far as I know, they won't let a push car run the track, but you could have a fellow racer tow you from the big end.

I must say. I love your car, it's got that nostalgia look I hope ours will, when we get her done.

I'd pay admission just to watch your car run all day! Nice to have a crew to share it with.

Friday I picked the car. Here is what the car looked when we picked it up. The body was just sitting on it. So now to get it back together!

The tank and valve covers showed up on Friday. I put the tank on it Fri. night. I picked up the other engine on Thursday and misc. parts. The other engine is a 283 that's rebuilt. I'm just using a a dumby, until we find a 292ci.

Here's what the engine looked like when we picked it up. We are dressing it up to like the way it was raced. Take a look at the distributor gear, the way it was installed? The DL. high school rebuilt it, so I'm told.

  25. I think that distributer gear would make me question the entire rebuild. I think for the cost of a gasket set, I would tear it down and make sure the rods are in the right way along with the pistons at least.

Oh and are you going to repaint the bad spots on the frame and body? I think you should leave it as it is. You can always restore it if you must.

    Keep the pictures coming!

  27. Great story!! I'd love to see it run again. I was watching it on Ebay and I wondered where it was going to end up. Congratulations!

I felt the same if I can trust the rebuild or go though it, It's just a dummby for now and will look good for the show.

NO PAINTING on this car, just it's natural paint cracks and rust on this car!

Here are some pic of engine so far.
