In Manhattan Beach, Ca 1961 , Helms Truck, Window Plackard, Good Humor Ice Cream Truck ..EXACTLY like these...youre making my memory synapses fire, I can smell the mahogany donut drawers in the Helms truck and remember the Good Humor Truck going up and down Valley Drive in the summertime...
My Father had Milk, Butter and Buttermilk delivered daily from Adohr Farms on the porch...

    Thanks!

we used to put this card in our window to tell the Helms man that we NEEDED DONUTS!!!

May, 1957 - Ruskin Heights tornado in Kansas City, MO. My mom watched the tornado from the back door of our house and my dad went around the neighborhood to collect flashlights and batteries to help in the recovery and clean-up.

More Ruskin tornado. In the first shot, the building in the upper left is the elementary school I would attend a few years later. The second is what was left of Ruskin High School, where my older sisters and brother would go (I went to Hickman Mills High School). My dad had a picture (I'm hunting for it) of the "RUSKIN" sign; the tornado took off the "S" and "K" to leave "RU IN".

    1959 Roseburg, OR
A building fire ignited a truck parked on an adjacent street carrying 2 tons of dynamite and 4-1/2 tons of ammonium nitrate. The blast damaged 8 city blocks and created a 52 foot crater, 12 feet deep.

Stories report that the guy who drove the truck had parked it overnight next to the warehouse that burned and was rushing to move it out of town when it exploded. One guy in a hotel three blocks away was blown completely out of his room into the hall. At least nine were killed. What a huge explosion.

That last remark was for the picture of where a girl was murdered.
