As you can see The Legion Special is completely dis***embled. We're shooting for a mid-March deadline in order to drive it to Goodguys Del Mar Nationals in April.

It's been just over a year of semi-constant work on the Legion Special (with a three month break for Goodguys events) and we've started to primer the main parts. The nights this week will find us prepping and spraying the little bits and pieces plus the motor.

Since I last posted an update we have had a few "sponsors" get involved. Hot Rod Works (www.hotrodworks.com) is doing a 9" Ford axle conversion to the banjo rear end, Gearstar (www.gearstar.net) is supplying a new overdrive ****** and Coker (www.coker.com) may be fitting the "special" with new shoes - Excelsiors and black 19" wire wheels!!

I'm looking for drums and hubs to convert from wide-five to regular 5 on 5.5".

Here's where we stand as of 2/8/2010...

I'm also close to having the logo and number designed.

I love fibergl***! It's so versatile. Just a couple nips and tucks here and there, and voila!

I would like to see "Legion" done in the same style as the "18" in Red/White/black...

Thanks for the update Kirk, looks like its coming together nicley. I would maybe rethink the copperplate font on the "special" part of the logo. Yeah I know with a suggestion like that, the question is do I have a suggestion...No, at least not at the moment. Don't shoot me, hey it's your car. A nice one at that.

It's funny how everyone has such an aversion to Copperplate. I used to too, but I have come to embrace it in recent months.

Oops, I didn't notice those in there. I'm working on a line of handmade partially vintage wood shift knobs. Probably shirts and stickers too.

Looks great. I like the middle logo the best....
the other two look like they're trying too hard to look like logos.

    Kirk,

It looks great! It is a very "special" build. I think your choices for number and lettering are excellent and I like the idea of copper or gold leaf. Are you using the new Excelsior radials or the bias plys? Can't wait to see it finished.

I know you are fairly good looking... and have a great physique but what are you trading... I always wonder about cars with sponsors...
