Message from Sled: Here's a 51 Caddy hearse sittin in a junkyard in Michoacan state...I have had hints of this car since a year ago and finally i met a guy wich new exactly were it was located,it helped for sure but too bad is too far gone i could'nt find any badge or indication of what exactly is,looks like a Miller....no hope here but just some pics for the memory
Sled: Been lookin for some Caddys and i came up on this 47 sedanette series 62 project.Really like the perfect proportions on these Caddys...they are massive and huge but due to great design they flow quite well....you have to see em live to get the size, really big whales. Notheless just pure class on wheels and made for last forever...looks like there are a number here around Mexico, found some of em all over.
hey Sled Now You Said You Live In Tequila Land Do You Really Live In Tequila Cause I Have a House Close To There . . And If Thats The Case Where Are All These Cars Located . . . . Or How Much Are They
Dammm! I'm already practising my mexican language, si, si, With cars like that around, I'm moving to Mexico Buenos Amigo
sled where in mexico are you? how far do you typically have to travel to get these cars ...... just curious...
Yeah Sled, Why not give the GPS coordinates of where you are locating these hidden gems Wait ...... probably because you just are not stupid Jim
I was lucky enough to live in southern mexico for a couple of years. I lived in the states of Morelos, Guerrero, and el Distrito Federal. I would love to return and bring back a few of the wonderful cars that seemed to be everywhere. The one place I would love to return, an older guy in a small town had at least 30 jukeboxes in his front patio. Nothing newer than 1965. My eyes nearly fell out of my head the first time i saw his place. There is nowhere in the world like Mexico.
Wow Thanks sled Awesome! There was guy in the late 80's use to drive 67-69 camaros over from Juarez. He would park in a shopping center sell em for a couple of grand. I am talking 68 ss/rs 396 stuff to. I bet there is alot over there!
Blackbird 73,im based close to Tequila...Guadalajara,2nd biggest city in Mexico. But i do move very often all over the republic to find stuff...right now im just arrived in La Paz,Baja california Sur...will be scarfin in the middle of nowhere here for a while and see what happens..found already some junk but hopefully more will come up.... I do go to Tequila when i receive visits from worldwide friends and customers...just been there last october with the Panamericana race...relaxed places to live,no doubt... When there again PM me and drop by,can show you some junk i have...Sled
BStoltz,well....as told before im based recently in Guadalajara but im movin all over to find stuff...covering huge distances,i dont care as long there is something interesting that is worth it...just arroived in baja california right now,so the adventure will start tomorrow...will be covering deserts, ranches and villages for some days, will see how it goes...wish me luck!
2tones10,if you mean the black 50 coupe Merc yes,it's for sale but too expensive for now..so ,no deal here. i'll wait til the old fella reconsiders his price..no hurry here,it might take years, you never know...but its located so no problem,im patient....
Trulyvintage...yep,just PM me and i'll you all coordinates...you need a full book to write then, cause they are 1000's of em...have a good one on the road buddy...sled
Utahdodge, perhaps ypu met at that time the father of my pal Arturo...he was a jukebox dealer on those years and has 50-60 of em always in stock..plus tons of parts...Wurlitzers,Rockolas,Amis ,all this stuff ya know...the place was in DF ,Mexico City? It's all gone long ago anyway...
That's a cool story...those were the years i suppose...it will be never like that anymore.Matter of fact is always harder and harder to find cool stuff but still there are some hidden gems..lot of fun here to rescue em.Will be covering myself all over Mexico and exept Argentina i dont think there will be many places like this anymore...
ok,gotta go...im on a mission but hopefully will have new stuff to post soon...well,i still got a lot more from other places..when back home and relaxed will update some more shit up...gotta go scarfin now...
Nah, my guy was a couple hundred miles south of DF. He probably new your friends dad though. He said he used to rent them to local bars and clubs.
Utahdodge, just realized it was far away from Df...let me tell ya that they were many places with many jukeboxes around, stashes and parts all over...i heard that many times but then somebody from abroad came and bought them off....was a tipycal job rentin them to bars, cantinas and clubs, that's why much stuff has been destroyed too....borrachos as hell there!!
Fellas, currently in Baja California peninsula and gettin lost on deserts, villages, ranches there...stay tuned, some pics soon....no time to update right now, just movin out in the countryside, fingers crossed....
Message from Sled: Fellas, tryin to keep up with the thread ...finally back home and here are some pics of the Baja California tour..mind you,it was a bit sad cause its already late.Much stuff has been scrapped over the years, and not much left there according to the locals...been travelling a while in hidden places and following local hints...ah,i love it!! Pretty much frustrating when you see pics of good cars scarpped for almost nothin, but that's the modern world... In any case you'll see some of the stuff left...looks ike the influence in those areas are muscle cars and for obvious reasons tons of pickups, many with double traction useful for the area....enjoy! Sled
Message from Sled: As said quite a number of muscle cars there..many americans drove down in the 60/70's for the adventure, had some fun and left the cars there..quite some big blocks cars were rescued back from time to time and sent back to US... Here an incredibly clean 67 GTO and at the opposite a total rusted 67 Mustang used in local drag racing, typical sport down there..many cars did'nt survived thru also for this reason...
Message from Sled: A bit of everything around...also a great amount of A Ford stuff ,also T such this case...they do nothin there, just keepin for ages without touch anything mostly...mid you ,the economy does not help at all so income is scarce to put it in a jalopy... Luckily the place is very dry, like Arizona ..so cars will not suffer at all if not located close to the ocean...that's a big plus!!
Message from Sled: Some random stuff while driving around in poor areas...still stuff around when you dont expect it..such the Chevy 2 HT used in local racing...also the 62 Ford was quite in good shape...pretty dry stuff!
Message from Sled: Some unusual trucks too..never seen so many International trucks in every configuration such as this towtruck, still in everyday's use...also jumped in a private car corral where i knew there was some interesting iron there...69 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed sittin there since who knows when?Still solid to me....there is a Plymouth 58 Fury 2D-HT sittin there, yep a real one with all gold side trimming...in poor shape unfotunately.Started to rain suddently and i realized later on i did took no pics at all !!Oh,well...next time.
