BigBlockFordMan said: "Hey Jimi, WOW what a awesome thread!!!........I'm fairly new here and have not posted to much yet, but I had to let you know how much I enjoyed spending the past couple of hours traveling back in time and down memory lane!.....in our modern so called society that we do our best to live in, it's a welcoming breath of fresh air and hope for the future that there's still a bunch of us left, who aren't in such a "hurry" to get rid of the past and are doing our best to preserve what's still left, even if it's only 1 vehicle at a time!"

Jimi: Thanks, any "credit" for what people say has been an enjoyable, one-stop time machine to view old Vintage Tin is due to the TEAMWORK of a ton of HAMBers. If I lived to be 200, I could never GO everywhere that's been represented here (40 of 50 states and most of southern Canada, plus a few other countries). So, it's been an ARMY of HAMBers going to yards near them and bringing back the pix for ALL to see!

When I originally posted, I was afraid most ALL yards had either rusted away or been crushed out. While stuff MAY BE rusty or rough in a lot of cases, it's good to know that at least SOME cool cars are still out there, for parts, projects, yard art -- any way guys and gals can save them. Thanks, man, for your post AND your enthusiasm!

I have always wanted to see one of these Stude's customized. I would either better blend the headlight pods with the fenders or go single round.

    58 President?

Frank, I think Studebaker took the cake for doing the worst job of adapting for quads in 1958. The Packard version looked just as bad. YOU are right: Guys need to come along LATER and blend the lines of the pod into the lines of the fender.

Here's a NICE artful shot taken by HAMBer dmw56 in new Mexico. If you want
to see lots MORE cool Vintage Tin pix, please go look up HAMBer RatRodDude's

HAMBer treb11 posted these keen shots from John's Salvage near Austin, TX (specifically, at Seguin, TX, off Foxtrotter Road). Pix were taken by his HAMB buddy Fonzi. Guys, looks like a pretty well-kept yard with some HAMB-friendly stuff!

Cool shot. And, hey! Isn't that a post-war Continental grille there in the middle on top???

Saw lots of these mashed in demo derby back when I was a kid. Ooooooh! The horror of it all!

One you don't see every day! What's it, a DivCo milk truck???

15-18 years ago i found a out of the way junk yard in Neb. still had the first car that was drug in back in the thirtys! the 75-80 year old man running it was a youngen when his father started the place. was the only farmer with a tractor larger enough to drag wrecks off the main road. it covered over 60 acres and the old home was smack dab in the middle of the place! even had an old chicken coop clear full of junk radiators! top to bottom! i asked them why they had not scraped anything in all them years and he said it was to far to go to get rid of the cars. if you wanted to buy one single car it would take a week just to get close. they parked them side by side with about a 10ft drive to get thru. wish i had spent more attention as to where i was at then to see if i could find it today.

Thanks, guys! If you need to know WHAT something is, there's ALWAYS somebody who knows, on the HAMB! BTW, roadkiII, I enjoyed the story about your dad and the "root cellar" ! I enjoy the STORIES behind the cars, just as much as I enjoy cars themselves!!!

Here are some cool shots HAMBer Joe Grippo rescued from various
yards. These three are from a place called Fleming's and are
featured at Joe's post on the HAMB thread titled, "Projects Sitting
and Rotting." If you haven't visited that thread, do yourself a favor!

A car nut all the way, Joe also seems to be a talented photographer with
an eye for what photogs call "cropping in the viewfinder." Good work, Joe!

And the one below is from a place Joe visited, called Pumpkin's Run.

A couple more by Fonzi from John's Salvage, Seguin, Texas.

Some good trim on the old Iron Indian here!

Hey, somebody check the back seat of this '60 Chevy & see if Bob Seger's back there with a girl!

And speaking of celebrity sightings. I looked twice before I realized that's not
Arlo Gurthie beside his VW Microbus. Anyway, would make a sweet camper!

New HAMBer 68C-10 of Athens, Georgia, posted this shot on a thread entitled,
"Abandoned Car Pics." and HAMBer RatMotor said he's pretty sure the Nova
has a TREE-SPEED TRANSMISSION, too! Go check out the whole thread!

Here is one you definitely DON'T see every day! A '58 Packard Hawk !!! This Stude has seen better days, BUT there are still decent parts here! Check out the hood; these are usually BROKEN back by the hinges, and this one's not! This boneyard shot was posted in August last year by HAMBer NotSoFast of Illinois on another thread, WITH lots of junkyard shots of HAMB-friendly cars! Check it out at thread, "Re: Who has Junkyard or abandoned carpics?" <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
    [IMG]

Only 558 to 588 were built, and though all had McCullough superchargers (yielding 275-horse from 289-CID) and posi rears (dubbed "Twin-Traction"), only 28 of these cars had a standard trans. This was the FASTEST production Packard, EVER. Kind of hard to imagine something THAT scarce still winding up junked, isn't it? Below is an example, thanks to Wikipedia and the WikiMedia Commons project, of how these looked NEW.

I was always a sucker for the eagle hood ornament on the '55 and '56
Chryslers. AND, are we looking a a ragtop?

The shift away from the finned era sure produced some interesting stuff
out of Detroit & South Bend. What year's this Olds?

Well, THIS is one you don't see every day -- at least in 2010! As for the Caddy below, it's not so much about the car itself as the artful photography. NICE angle, light and cropping!

Here are just some FUN shots of "attention-getting" cars
at junkyards and places where they sell REALLY used cars.

From Georgia, this one was posted by HAMBer SWIGJ of Jasper, GA, on a thread
titled, "Old cars made into signs." Cool site, so go enjoy the whole thing!

From the same thread, HAMBer KatatonicMike of Yuma, AZ, posted
this Met on the roof of a guy in Mexico who sells REALLY "used" cars.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term, "AERODYNAMIC," doesn't it? On the
same thread, HAMBer LowKat posted this shot from west of lake Geneva, WI.

HJManiac of Cleveland posted this Henry J on the same thread.
The New Jersey speedway is long gone, but the car went to Henry
Flemming's junkyard where it still exists -- or at least pieces of it!

Here's another one from Joe Grippo. Do you suppose this car had sat outside
a body shop? The pitch painted on the door says, "DON'T let RUST make
a GHOST out of your Car! "

In a Colorado yard, look like a '49 Plymouth candidate for a little TLC.

Pair of post-war Studes in dry Montana seem to have potential.

Check this Champion dash. When was the last time in a bone yard
you saw a dash so intact, NOT picked over?

Hiya, Frankie! That is interesting. Recently, did you see the shoebox Fords
badge-engineered as "Mercurys" for the Canadian market? Complete with
    Merc grilles!!! They were COOOOL!

Wow, Mako!!! This pic is awesome! Nowadays, some of the early kid's pedal cars, in nice shape, bring tens of thousands of dollars. I can't read the fine print, other than, "Take your pick!" ANY idea where or when this pic was taken? Is it from some library or university archive? Anything?

Not what I meant when I said, "Let's see a woodie!" LOL

At least there's some decent, scarce trim on this '60.

A tad too far gone for even FrankenPlymouth to turn into a coupe, I fear!
