Im just throwing this out there for discussion

Im wondering if anyone has tried this,..not for slaming an A hot rod, but for ride and adjustability, just on the rear axle.

can this be done? has it been done?

the common coil over set up, anchor points with something like this to do the work in place of the coil over?

On my Tudor Build you wont see them anyways..Deuce tank, full fender etc...

Yeah I know it isnt traditional..so flame on if you must..I was just wondering for ride quality , because my cars dont sit to just look at em..

here is what im talking about....whats yer thoughts

Again I gotta say I have them on the coupe. You can't see them unless you get on the ground & I have a set of chrome shocks as well. Car rides great & you can adjust the height of the rear if needed.

I have been beating my head over the coil over set ups..and all the spring rate head aches..this seems to be a win win..no matter how many passengers or what ever , seems this would be an awsome set up to dial in a ride no matter how many riders you have in the car with you, or any other variables.

    Mikeco..what ones did you use?

Here are some shots of a hotrod built by Sean Ornduff I believe. Traditional or not I thought that it was brilliant.

And here is what my "shop truck" has on the back of it.

    And on the front too.

The bag over shock works very well for my application and I am happy with the performance, especially the dampening adjustability on the shock.

well thats kinda cool..dont even need to worry about a compressor and all that shit..just set em and go.
if my kid and dog wanna go and a cooler full in the back its as easy as a 12 volt tire pump in the tool kit.

the ones i have pictured are almost the same foot print as a coil over, and way more adjustability as far as i see it.

I did do a search, but most of the stuff i found wasnt Hot Rod related, more of a customs slammed thing

I used a pair of air bags in the rear of my 41 willys using two air lines to separate schreader valves in the trunk. The set up worked great for ride and simplicity. I junked the whole setup after going to the drags......I had to let so much air out to get my control arms parallel, to hook up, that the rearend a big ugly squat. I changed to coilovers and ladder bars and now it hooks so hard it will blow your wig in the back seat?

    Are bags considered "traditional"?

they did some much wierd shit back in the day Cadillac had bags back in the mid-50's or earlier maybe.
Packard Had electric adjustable 4 corner torsion rod suspension in 54 I believe.
I laughed my ass off when street rodder had an article about the next big thing in chassis and had an article on "New" electric adjustable torsion rod suspension that looked like an exact copy of the Packard system.

well im not completely sold on it yet..just throwing it out there..as far as living with the "look"..you would have to be the possum i ran over to ever see them..With that deuce tank back there and full fender..only an ant could say..hey lookie here fuckin bags!

also im not talking those huge bastards..they are about the same size as coil overs..

Sounds like a good idea to me.
The brother was going to put bags on his 60 pontiac and after researching it for awhile thought it might ride to stiff so he changed his mind.
Lincolns had them and no one complained about the ride.

    very true..

they are not too expensive, and the way i plan to run them i wont need compressor etc...

I think if i set them up right, i could achieve a decent and fully adjustable ride for out back.

with this car being a road car, it might be a nice way to be able to tune in different ride heights, and road handeling capabilities..

i really would like to get a seat of the pants feel for it, and if i dont like them, well lesson learned. I can always find a home for them

    nothing ventured, nothing gained

I like to run airbags on the back. There's a lot of reasons to run them...good ride, cheaper and adjustable are at the top of the list. I mount them on trailing arm style suspension and infront of the rear. Unless you are looking for them you can't see them.

I've run both double conv. and sleeve style bags. Both worked great.

We do have a problem finding good schrader valves.

Here's my old 32 chassis. Sorta hard to see the bags but I don't have any good pics at the momment.

have you any experiance with the type i pictured?
in the place of coil overs?

where woulld you suggest i get good schrader valves?
and do you suggest T'ing them together or running them aired up seperately?
