what ever the next fad is.. its just gonna make it harder for the normal joe to afford an old car... I'm sticking with my 50 dodge
Well let see...53 Studebakers, 50 Ford business Coupes, 53 Ford Sedan Deliveries, 60 El Caminos, 49 Studebaker trucks, 65 Corvairs...Just so I can have a car I can sell for stupid money.
For trucks.... I wouldn't be surprised to see a slow gain in Internationals. It seems like everyday somebody is inheriting a new one or buying a cheap one on boards I frequent. They are cheap.... built very well.... in abundance.... have weathered years in the weeds well.... and less sought after than Fords, Chevys or Dodges. All these make for a great ground up truck build.
Look at this posters profile ... He is telling it as he sees it ... and he does NOT own a 32 Ford I agree that all the " KIT CAR 32's " have reduced their appeal to some. I do not like looking at a sea of " kit 32's also ". Others say they like " Brand XXX better " ... because Brand XXX is what they have or HOPE to be able to afford someday. I find it intersting that a LOT what each poster predicts as the NEXT big thing ... oftens is what is listed in his profile or in his avatar. __________________________________________ I have no idea of what's the NEXT big thing But I see cars and trucks of the 50's and 60's becoming more accepted. No exactly because of their looks ... but because of they are cheap and available. Me ... I want another 56 Ford F-100 big window ( or a 56 Mercury big window ), or a 48/50 F-1 pickup ( or 48/50 Mercury pickup ). I have been trying to buy a 1957 Ford 300. It is a 2 door model "D". That's the one with no back seat from the factory. Of course it is BLACK ... and looks like this 57 but nowhere NEAR as nice. I would build another 32 ... but I am too overweight for a 32 pickup and I cannot afford a 5W, 32 Victoria or 32 sedan Plus I need to do something DIFFERENT ... I have been a 32 guy since the mid 70's.
OK... we all need to be real honest with ourselves. Tuners are the next big thing. As most HAMBers become older than dirt a younger generation of Japanese car lovers is/has taken their place. Facts is facts sorry fellas.
The old Chevy thing has been around for a while, personally I could care less what the "next car" is..as long as people keep trying to be original and creative,,we'll keep seeing some nice rides
Well the Japs never built a car that was all metal so the plastic will deteriorate even standing still. No jap car will last more than 20 years. How many 70's -80's jap cars do you see around now - not that there any worth saving. The next fad? Buying any old POS because thats all anyone can afford now and trying to make them mainstream. Four doors, Rambler's, Pinto wagons, Gremlins, Mavericks top my list. Personally a car I hated when I was a kid is one I still hate now. Working in a filling station I learned to dread certain cars when they rolled in. Nothing worse than an old 1960-64 Ford Station wagon - green - (weren't they all green?) with a fat woman wearing a mumu and all those plastic rings on her fat arms. Had 6 kids yelling and screaming in the back. $5.00 gas and can you please check the tires and my water and oil. Arrrgh! I knew what to expect when I opened the hood. An old 352 pig block Ford with blowby spewing oil all over the engine. That damn radiator expansion tank mounted to the water outlet always leaked so a layer of rusty water covered the already filthy oil soaked engine compartment. What oil do you want lady? We have reclaimed for 25 cents, Shell for 35 cents, and Pennzoil for 45 cents? Two quarts low? Oh my goodness I just put two quarts in 2 weeks ago and don't forget my stamps! So now I see guys building old Ford Galaxies - everytime I see one I shudder and think back - whatever!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think anything Chevy/GMC before 1955 were incredibly ugly.
While I agree with you that it is not fact, there is no denying that the younger generation (myself included) is more interested in being able to tune cars with computers than dealing with carburetors and points.
While the bodies were terrible, their engines were legendary. Also, "Jap" is derogatory/racist toward the Japanese.
Plastic may not hold up but its sure easy to reproduce. The tuner market grew from nothing in the 70's to a 7.9 billion dollar industry 30 years later.... Japanese automakers currently own 10% of the auto industry. Not to mention the industry is much much bigger than the vehicles in the 30's, 40's and 50's. You and I may hate it but they are popular amongst younger folks.
Alright I will throw in my 2 cents. I work at The Filling Station, vintage Chevrolet and GMC parts, and we are noticing a big trend of 1960-66 trucks getting worked on right now. They are hot, well at least at this moment.
Pink bunnies, big eyed puppies and friendly kittens will replace skulls and spider webs on rat rods as the punkrodders seek social acceptance.
Trends will come and go. But the ones the cars that were cool, will always remain cool. The deuce will be king forever. I don't have one, but someday I will!
ive noticed 36 fords are becoming more popular. i dont follow trends, i like what i like and that wont change.
Glitter and lace, streach pants and long sweat shirts with a belt. Cats and dogs living together. dual wheels on fenderless cars and so on
