Deuces and Tri-Five Chevy's are a base line not a fad in our little corner of the automotive world. The only thing that will ever change is the style they get built in. Almost every hot rodder would have one if they could and that hasn't changed in a half century. What is changing is the number of hot rodders and the amount of money it takes to have one of the above hot rods. Jap stuff has always been looked down on by guy's like us but weather we want to admit it or not, in just a couple of generations there will only be a handful of young guy's interested in truly old stuff. As for saying Jap being racist or derogatory I say bull shit. I'm sick and damn tired of political correctness and everybody walking around with a damn chip on their shoulder just looking for a chance to be offended. Were talking about Jap cars not Japanese people, you can't offend a car, honest. So put on your big girl panties and deal with it!
'53 and '54 Chevys. They're still available. They can hold a family of four or five. Any engine will fit between the fenders. Parts are fairly easy to find. They can go custom or hot rod. Yup. That's what it will or could be. The only '32 I ever REALLY wanted was Milners. Otherwise they tend to be overdone. I love the history and can appreciate the ones that have been done, but it just seems like they are everywhere.
32's & trifive chevys have & always will be in style...Other fads have come & gone. In the early 90's, 67-72 Chevy trucks were the thing, then it was 66-7 Nova's, In the last 5-6 years 69 camaros have been the thing. I also remember minitrucks, v.w's and when I was just a little tike vans were the thing. But 32's & trifives have always been "in". If I am wrong, & these cars do fall off...I'll buy every one that I can!!! I think that 55-7 Fords (especially 57's), model A's, & 35-6 Fords will continue to rise in value & desirability as the availabilty of 32-4's & trifive chev's dries up...my opinion, anyway! Sam
well im building a 54 chevy so Im sure theyll be looked down upon by the time im done! I think the next reaaalllly hot car is the 34 ford coupe...I know that theyve always been popular but wait till this summer and next year!

Might as well roll the dice if you expect to pick the "next big thing". I think the '32's, tri-5's will be popular forever. They will just keep being aquired by people with more and more money until the "real" ones won't be available to the average guy (it's close now). I'll continue to work on and enjoy mine but I'm not sure my son will want to take over when I'm gone. So.............for my prediction I'll say pickups and mid sized 4drs will be a good investment as their easy to work on and affordable. Frank
I think the next big thing all depends on the genre. For the HAMB crowd it probably will be the more affordable 1950s models and late 50s early 60s pickups. Good looks, good prices, easily customized. I'm seeing a lot of the tuner guys around here selling the Civics and Acuras and leaning towards German cars, especially the TDI cars. Which is great because they aren't putting on airplane wings and fart can exhaust tips. Mini trucks were the big thing when I was in highschool, then fullsized, lowered trucks, SUVs then the big wheels started showing up. I think for car guys bank accounts has a lot to do with it. Is a 32 my favorite car? No. Would I buy one if it was available at a good price? Hell yes! They are bad ass cars. We all started out with the junk and worked our way up. I think that trend will always be there and whatever genre of car you are into you will try to improve on that. Man I'm sleepy. This makes sense to me even if it doesn't to anyone else.
whats next? a clean but fast hybrid hot rod. Mark my words. But what SHOULD be next? As the population of the younger hottroders gets older, it will be what they remember as being cool when they were young, kinda like us who are older who remember specific cars from our younger days as cool. Same painting...just different canvas.
Everyone wants 30s-40s Fords and Chevys (including me) But i think with the economy the way it is i still see 49-54 Chevys and 49-51 fords still the most desired
Exactly. For most people it's nostalgia. Hell, there are people restoring Escort GTs and other stuff that I will probably always consider to be garbage, and I guess that's fine, if you can find enough NOS plastic parts to do it. I've met plenty of people who don't know why I would waste my time on big 60s & 70s Chryslers. "whatcha fixin' up a derby-car fer???" It's just my thing....
58 thru 64 Pontiac/Oldsmobile/Cadillac/Buick. BIG cars, lotsa style, lotsa room, lotsa chrome. The Pontiacs are already priced outa sight for the nice ones. It wasn't too many years ago when ya couldn't give these cars away but that ship has sailed.
there are many cars that will just never be uncool or "out" if you can say that. but the way i see it from being a young guy. people are buying anything old and turning it into a rod, rat, drag, what ever. i think in the next 10 years we are going to see ALOT of things being built. some really cool, and some will be.....um not so cool. this is going to be an interestion next few years.
I don't know man, there are tons of 80's Hondas all over NYC, still on the road driving and some of them are pretty fast.
I Agree! Late 50's to late 60's cars/trucks are still out there that is in price still avalable to the average guy. I say you can include some cars up to the late 60's, maybe even early 70's. Back in the day my Dad had a '68 Meteor Rideau 500 with mags and chrome tip exhaust pipes. Nice car! I wish I had that car today.
I used to be in charge of the Sport Compact Council, focusing on tuner cars. We often did polls to provide manufacturers with pertinent info. One thing that stuck out was that a large portion of them loved muscle cars, especially gen 1 Camaros and Mustangs. They just couldn't afford them. But there was not a big pull for pre-60 cars. So we should treat those rat rodders and rock-a-billy types better, just so there is still a market.

c body mopars, I say that because I have one. Over here in New Zealand 32's are getting very popular in the same way T buckets did in the 80's, but due to the fact that getting a steel body 32 ford is like trying to find rocking horse shit. Many people are building glass bodied cars, just like with the Buckets, But the downside of this is that they become known as "poor mans hotrods" when the market becomes flooded with glass bodied rods. I know of a few guys who have got them selves a cheap T bucket thrown out the old glass body and bought a 32 glass body and voila they now have a 32 ford roadster to keep up with the trend.
