Looking for some hints, ideas on what to put on my new project. Just bought a running driving 56 Chevy Nomad. It's not a show car by any way or shape. But will be a fun driver. It had American Racing Daisey mags, which the owner is keeping. Was looking for pics of Ansen sprints, or other cool old opitions. Trying to stay away from the T.T.O or crome reverse, Sumpremes. Post a picture if you have a great suggestion.

A simple treatment that I used to see often in the early '60s, but not so much these days...
a look that I'm kinda partial to...

Black painted steel wheels, with chrome acorn lug-nuts. That's it. Looks tough.
    Good luck with your Nomad!

I always liked Cragar SS wheels on the tri-five Chevy's..they just seem to look right. It comes down to when I was in High School, Cragars were the wheels to have (but with black walls), and the cars we had were tri-five Chevy's.

For real Old School, try Indy Drag Mags. Check this old thread:

New center caps are available. There's a company in Kansas that does spun aluminum parts. I sent him a good center, from which he made a pattern. The caps fit really well and look great.

We put the new cragar halibrand inspired wheel on a nomad and they looked pretty good, kinda felt the traditional SS wheel would've been better.

  13. They are cl***ic & look great on tri 5s. The only problem is that the chrome flakes off the ones made today in a couple of years unless they have made huge improvements since I looked into them last. Until the Chinese get better at chrome plating I'm sticking with polished aluminum for all my shiny stuff. At least it can always be re-polished as needed. I just picked these up for the wifes 57. Made by Foresight in the 60s. (not the tires, they are junk)

I had Jeff Meyers ( Fink'd ) do a fade paint job for the wheels on my 64 wagon. Added spider caps and mini trim rings for a cool custom look. I also like the black wheel with chrome, acorns, spider caps and a mini trim ring. Gary

Thanks everyone, keep the ideas coming! This is really helpful.

  16. It might help to know the color combo on the car. Certain wheels look better on dark cars; others look good on light colors. I've always been partial to Cragars on dark colors.

Gotta have Cragar SS and blackwall tires IMHO.....Or straight-spoke torque thrusts also with black tires. I never cared for whitewalls on tri fives.

Not traditional but I always thought the steel factory 5 spoke Z28 wheels
(kind of like the daisies) looked good on 56 wagons, not sure about a Nomad though???
They may just look cheap and/or cheesy these days.

I plan to run old magnesium American Racing Five Spokes in the back and some Smoothie Halibrands up front with three prong knockers.

What about Rally wheels? Maybe 15X7 Monte Carlo Rallys on the front and 15X8 Corvette Rallys on the back. If you want something other than stock Monte Carlo-Later Corvette raised "Derby" style center caps, you could use some factory "flat"style Rally wheel caps- either the earlier Corvette 'flat' caps or the "66-69 "Cop car with disk brake" flat caps. The cop car rally wheel caps are pretty cool - sort of like a miniature 'baby moon' cap with a smooth rounded face with couple of grooves around the outside edge and a small Chevy bow-tie in the middle. I'm pretty sure that both the 'Vette' flat caps and the "Cop car" flat caps are being reproduced, so they shouldn't be too hard to find.
