Burgandy colour needed

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by gearheadforever, Dec 26, 2009.

  1. My dad and I are building a 39 ford deluxe coupe and want to paint it burgandy. The car is traditional with white walls, so I need a code or car and year of a great colour. Pictures would be great thanks

Best way is to find a car with the color you like and then get the factory paint code.
burgandy could be anything from Oxblood to many color of red.

I don't know if it was available stock in '39 but '40 Ford Mandarin Red is what I call maroon.

A '39 Ford Deluxe Coupe deserves a '39 Ford color. Whatever you do though, don't shoot it in a metallic. Coach Maroon Bright, Claret Maroon, Mandarin Maroon, or Garnet Maroon could all be options. They were in '39.

Beyond providing a paint code though, online color chips are worthless. Do some research & find some examples. See them IN PERSON.

Personally, I've wanted to paint something "Cloud Mist Gray" for years - just because it's green.

Didn't they have a maroon in '39. I've several painted with it, I like it.

  14. This pic is a little dark, but it's what I think of. Sorry no color code. Maybe the owner will see this and chime in?

Did this 66 Chevy Wagon and the color is from a mid 70's mopar. Liked it cause it looked old and could use base/ clear. Would have to get the paint code off the can if your interested.

'36(?) Auburn/Cord 'Rich Maroon' is a colour I plan on using in the future. You'll find it in the Auto color library mentioned by 'Harrison'.

Try late 80's early 90's S-10 Blazer. It's a non metalic color and works well with older Ford shapes. It has an early vibe to it. It's what is going on my '32 5w if I don't redo it the Honduras Maroon ('62 Vette) that's on it now.

    Hey, gearheadforever;

If you're not locked into some "traditional" shade of burgandy, you might look @ '03 SAAB 9-3, & ~ '05 SAAB 9-5, Merlot Red. Wife's rather partial to that one... :) .

Also, the SAAB 9-7x, ~ '07->'09, Lingenberry (sp?) Red. 2nd favorite.

    I like 'em, too.

    FWIW.

    Marcus...

My 92 GMC S15 Jimmy was the exact color you want. That is your application to go buy paint with.

Check out Mercedes Benz 567 - Bordeaux Red Metallic Clearcoat

www.paintscratch.com is good for matching OEM colors to paint codes... just don't go by the color chip provided.
