I just read the thread here about Bob Drake making new all steel '40 Fords.
It started me thinking that, if you have the loot (which I don't) you could basically buy a brand new all steel hot rod in pieces, just like the model car kits we bought with our paper route money when we were kids.
It amazes me that the following iconic hot rod bodies are now being reproduced in steel:

    27 T roadster
    Model A Roadster or RPU
    32 Roadster, coupe, RPU
    34 Coupe
    40 Ford (reportedly coming soon)
    57 Chev
    Cl***ic Camaro
    Cl***ic Mustang

So what should be the next cl***ic to be reproduced in steel?
I'm thinking a '36 Ford 3 window coupe, possibly my all-time favorite. What do you think?
( I couldn't afford one anyway but I live in a world of fantasy ;))

"Build it and they will come". It's the Hot Rod field of dreams, I guess us baby-boomers got the desire and the duckies to buy about anything except time!

Not steel but you can get an aluminum Cobra, only better, the fit and finish is way better than the origionals.

Unless the lottery hits, I'm not a customer for these products.
Next should be a Merc. The patch panels alone during the process would help finance the business plan.

34 Roadster, Phaeton, Ute are also available in steel.
The 47-54 Chevy pickup cab is also repopped in steel (never understood this one)-if that's a go anything is game.

If I'm that desperate to build something that isn't being reproduced in steel, then I'll go with 'gl***. I'm not going to wait.
Having a reproduced steel body gives your car no more merit than a 'gl*** one. Either way, they're fake. Fun, but fake....so build away, I say. It's all about the fun anyways.

I think '56 style Ford pickups are available already. If not, I'm sure they will be.

If there wasn't gl*** and steel reproductions, how big would the "Street Rod Nationals" really be???????

I would have thought that a '40 Willys coupe would be more saleable than a '40 Ford coupe, although I guess it will be a helluva lot easier to find a suitable Ford ch***is ('35 - '41?) than a Willys one.

The next successful steel body will be the deuce 5 window. I don't know who but someone will make it happen in the future. I saw the 55/57 chevy pu cab is being reproduced.

I believe that '41 Willys coupe is already being made as well. The pick up cabs are a smart idea as everything else for them was being reproduced. I think the only thing missing are GM's doors for 1951. They were/are unique and were used one year only.

The people making the Camaro and Mustang also make a GM 'A' body shell that is just the structure so that you can put your quarters on it and it's a universal fit for a Chevelle, LeMans (GTO), Cutl*** and Skylark.

    ArchangelKustom,
Thanks for posting the info on Panel-craft. I am truly amazed! I want that Delahay! The DecoRides stuff is very cool looking too, but fibergl*** (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Krylon32 is probably right that the next one to be reproduced will probably be a 32 5 window.
I wouldn't mind a 34 Ford cabriolet or, better yet, an Allard J2!

Too bad the 27 roadster body is super-sized.

If a Willys is being made in steel that is news to me.

That is the one that should be done IMHO.

I would bet the 32 five window, 32 sedan, 40-42 Willys, 33 ford three window, 34 three window, and some more muscle cars will be on the market in new steel in the next ten years if the economy recovers.

I'd think someone would make a Model A, 32 or 34 closed cab pickup .

I remember seeing somewhere last year that they were re-popping complete 70-72 chevelle bodies! Not Hamb worthy, but WTF! There are still a good deal of those cars around and I didnt think the demand was that great for a complete Chevy A body!

Given the number and percentage of repair panels for most versions of the Model A, in most versions, I am surprised that nobody is finishing the deal and producing more models. I think all that is needed for a Closed Cab '28-'29 are the cowl/windshield posts, and the door inner panels.

I would think someone could do OK making a '32-'34 Ford pickup. You would probably sell 4 sets of doors for every cab but every sale would recover some development cost. You would only have to do the cab as the boxes are already available, the front fenders are just '32 standard fenders with a couple of minor tweeks and the rear fenders the same. I'm guessing this one would be the cheapest to do as the supportng parts are already in the pipeline.

    Nope,
Just got of the phone with them and they thought I was crazy.
If anyone knows where I could get a repo steel roof skin for a 56 Ford pickup, I'd love to know.

I am waiting for them to do all steel 1953 Corvette bodies...

The fibergl*** ones have no soul.

  27. Isnt there a guy out there doing 32 5 windows right now? If Im thinking right they dont come with any innerstructure. Id LOVE to have one of those!

I guess a freshload of '68/'69 chargers should be a hit...

Personally I'd like to see new steel unchopped '32 fivewindows. (...if they aren't already on the market...)

I heard this is in the works at Brookville, just a strong rumor though. Would have a super market for the complete doors.

I thought I just saw in street rodder an ad for a 28-29 A truck cab. It is oversized so I don't know if that would mean there were doors available for all of those t's out there or not.

I would rather have 2 souless '32 3 windows for the price of what one of the originals goes for. You can give a car soul. All you have to do is beat it down the road for a few years. I am getting lazy in my old age. I would rather spend my energy cutting, hacking, and chopping instead of fixing rust.
