This is the second post from newbies fishing for bagging tech on 1963 Rambler Wagons in like 8 hours? Whats going on some sort of Rambler Revolution? ;) I've got the same wagon maybe I didn't get the Revolution text message here in Baghdad?

  7. A different drummer for sure. I like that one. But then, I've always liked wagons.

Where am I wrong? I just said "I never thought I'd see the day, baggin' a rambler wagon". And I am "havin a hard time with this one".
You gotta understand I grew up when those were new. I had a friend whose family owned one, even the same gold color, and when he'd get the car to go cruisin', he'd get to town and park it out of sight and hop in someone else's car to cruise. There was no way he was gonna get laid in that thing (even if he did have plenty of room), and the guys would have laughed him off the street, it was instant dork status.
All that said though, times have changed, and the one pictured is pretty nice, I'd drive it, but I suspect I'd still get flack from a lot of the guys my age.
Believe me, when I was younger, it was the other way around, trust me.

Here's the 65 I just picked up....having the interior redone as soon as I can walk again...

  21. Ok, I bagged the front of my 65 Classic back in early 90's, real easy,if you can weld a bit & fab simple mounts. First make sure the stock suspension is in good shape, and your trunions are good, then where the top of the spring goes, make sure this is strong and not rusted out. Remove the front springs & cups the springs set into, you will reuse these cups to make the bag mounts, by shorting the cups and adding flat plates to them you can mount bags to them, I made the upper mount tall enough to clear the airline fitting & drilled a hole & used a rubber grommet to protect the airline comming out the side. I drilled two holes in the part of the cup to mount it to the inner fender(won't fall out when jacking up the car) the bottom cup I put 2 good tack welds on to the part that goes to the trunnion, to keep it seated. I could have bolted it also. I used 2600 bags and stock shocks, rides better than stock and I can set the front crossmember on the ground. I added bump stops to the lower control arm (trimmed off flat) so they touch the frame when fully aired out. When I did this I only used a pump and a simple switch & gauge to control. The rear should be coils also and even easier,I converted mine to leaf spings cuz I wanted to drag race it.I also have a good method for converting to front disc brakes from a newer AMC, and I have a theory about making drop spindles for it also, as you know they used bolt on spindles, I propose that you have a rectangle shape cut out of half inch plate steel and drill 6 holes the same pattern as the spindle bolts, & therefore move the spindle up so the bottom 2 bolt of the spindle bolt onto the top 2 holes on the upright. You can adapt this a bit to add a mount for a GM style of caliper, and rotors from a later AMC. What do you think? Could this work, to do staic drops also?

ME!! If your talkin' early escort wagon (not the newer roundish ones)... with a Cosworth Escort mill...... Yes, I would love to see that, I would love to own that..

As for the Rambler, I think it would be bad ass bagged... I think it would be even cooler with an old school hydraulic set up... But bags are easier to work with..

Throw a set of chrome reverses, tru spokes, or astros on it with skinny whites, and a paint job with any combination of flake, candy, and pearl.. And you've got it made... (I'd go with tru spokes, pinner whites, a wild blue/purple/silver/white panel job w/ some lace work... a bad ass juice set up, and a 401 AMC mill to keep the batteries charged...

    Good luck with her!!

I'll get better pix when the weather gets nice but mine is a flat silver with a bassboat silver flack top with some pretty cool paint work going on.....

As for the bagging that's cool and all, but I'm more interested in converting over to disc brakes...anyone ever done it?

Wouldn't all you have to do is rob the front brakes off of a '65 or '66 Rambler? They're pretty much the same if I remember right..

  25. That pic of that bagged Rambler is friggin' cool. That grill in itself takes the cake...in fact I think it's a lot neater looking than a Nova wagon. I'm hooked on this car.

mine's 4 wheel drum, so I'd have to add the booster too....
anything besides the 4 disc hubs and the booster?...and would 2 front disc setups work for me?....I know nothing about ramblers here but I'm workin' on it!

thanks man...foot surgery from an old soccer injury that wasn't an issue till I started spending 12+ hrs a day on a hangar floor...just time to get it fixed but I hate being down and out when there's a project sitting right outside!
