  1. SuperFleye posted a link to these amazing colour pics on a thread I started. I thought they deserved their own thread http://www.scta-bni.org/EM_1948_photos.htm They are from the collection of Warren Durkee Courtesy of Jill Durkee-Burgoyne

    a couple of samples.

I thought this car was only in the red/white theme. Learn new things all the time. Thanks for the post.

  21. That is the original So-Cal tank it was rebodied with the streamliner body in 1949. It crashed at Daytona Beach in 1951 & was then scraped.

You're right Jimmy, these awesome photos deserves their on thread. When I first found them my first thought was that these has to be taken from "The Birth of Hot Rodding" book... but after a second look I realized that they weren't. On the site, some cars have captions. But feel free to name cars featured on the photos. Except from the ones mentioned above I recognize Paul Schiefer's 1925 Ford:

    [IMG]<br>
More info about his roadster can be found here: http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Paul_Schiefer's_1925_Ford

    And ofcourse the Giovanine/Spurgin roadster....but who doesn't that :)

I'm also suspecting that this is Warren Durkee's roadster (the guy who took the photos):

    The Stu Hillborn Streamliner:

But does anyone spot Waldo...err, I mean David Newhardt in any of the photos?

  25. Walt McClung accident in Blair Speed Shop roadster he walked away after rolling it.

Johnny Hartman roadster, The Spalding Bros. had a hand in its construction.

So-Cal Liner same chassis and running gear as the bronze and white 555 bellytank.

Paul Schiefer roadster my 2nd all time favourite roadster.

This modified is not Phil Remington's nor was it built by him. It was built by Bill Warth in the late 30s, Karl Orr bought it from Warth. The nose on the Warth/Orr modified was updated with the nose off the Warth/Hilborn streamliner as Hilborn and Eddie Miller formed a new nose. Karl Orr won the points championship in '42 so wore the prized #1 after the war when racing resumed in '46. Karl ran the modified until '47 then sold it to the team of Path and Moore who ran it in '48-49 which is how it was pictured here it was updated in '49 with a sprint car tail section to run better in streamliner class.

Here it is when owned by Karl Orr
