You talk more than my teenaged girl! We've seen the clean frame rails, that fancy motor is recycled from the last build, now you're waving a damned Littlfield around like a new purse! Get your ass to work and build somethin'!

    For cryin' out loud!

    Update #8

Oh man....Been workin hard on this one!

I decided to go with a non-crossover steering setup, so I made up this little mount to attach the steering box to the floor of the car. The mount goes through the factory "frame rail" The bottom side of the frame rail will be reinforced when I do the rest of the frame rails.

    All cleaned up..

Before I painted it, I decided to add a little gusset to make sure there was no flexing going on.

I heated and bent the steering arm straight, so I made a it a little stronger. I'm sure it would have been fine.....but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

    All blasted and purdy...

Heres the bracket mounted up with the steering box. Yes, thats where my feet should be.

Since I'm sitting pretty much in the back seat, I needed something to hold the steering column. I made it from 1" .120 wall tubing on my bender.

Added a "foot" to it so I could unbolt it if needed. It seemed a better option than welding it in.

This gives you an Idea...It will look way cooler when the column is actually in there, and the Sun tach is mounted inside the hoop.

Got the steering arms and drag link in. I did the calculations on the drag link a million times......it should not have any noticeable bump steer.

Panhard bar mounts made and welded on. Also welded on the shock mounts. Having the engine stuffed so far back makes all this stuff a piece of cake. ALOT of room to work with.

Thats all for now. Thanks to everyone for their encouragement! I'm super stoked to finally build myself a gasser.

PS....SEE Scotty Baccus......I do get to work!

    Update#9

    Another milestone......

    Went nuts with the sawzall......

Stuffed in the motor for a mock up.....The motor sits back almost the maximum allowable distance from the axle to the first sparkplug hole according to the 1966 NHRA rulebook, and it sits at the maximum crank center height of 24"

Now I can make all the measurments for the firewall templates and the subframe.

Time to figure out what tranny I want to run. I'm kinda leaning toward a built Super T-10 now, but the switch pitch is still a possibility.

    More to come.....

Anybody know of a less costly option than the bendtsens kit to put a Super T10 or Muncie behind a 401? Their kit is $1100. eek!

That's more like it! I can't help you with the adapter kit, but comes down to bolt patterns at both ends with the right distance between them. Could you come close to justifying building your own? Do you have the means?

Even at $1100, that nailhead is worth the trouble.

The problem is, its quite a bit of machine work. Unless I has the parts from an existing kit to copy, it would probably take me 1234567 years to do.

I know its worth it, but I just don't have 1100 to play with. I'm building this thing by hustling stuff laying around the yard that I don't use/need. The car has paid me $125 so far, the blower setup was purchased with the proceeds from the 6x2 setup for $700 from a friend of mine (crazy deal), Hurst hooked up the tires waaay cheap (going to run their logo on the car), The only real cost has been my labor, the axle, and buying lunch for my buddys Nic and Mark when they help.

Thanks guys...I really appreciate the kind words. I'm hoping to get the engine mounts finished up tomorrow and finally start on the subframe and cage. Oh man....soooo much to do.

    -------------------------
The car is really coming together nicely! Great work! About the carbs on top of the blower in the pics - 4GC Rochester!!! Neat!!! I realize that so far, it's just a mock-up, but are those the carbs you plan on running?? If so, that'll be really cool - very 'period' - and a nice change from the 'belly-button' Holley and AFB style carbs that everybody else ( - and every other blown nailhead-powered, early Falcon gasser, btw - :D :D :D ) is running!

I hope you go with the 4GCs. You don't see them much anymore,
other then on restorations, - but 'back in the day' they were a very common and popular 'hot rod' carb, especially for the guys who didn't have cubic money to just go out and buy a brand new AFB or Holley. Also, people don't give 4GCs nearly enough credit. First, don't flow too badly - especially the bigger Olds, Cad and Buick versions - and they're pretty simple and easy to tune too.

The only thing that would be cooler than two 4GCs on top of a blower would be *three* 4GCs on top af a blower!!! I actually saw a set-up like that first-hand, back around '65 of '66, on a neighbor's home-built '39 Chevy gasser. The car had a 6-71 blown 394 Olds and he had accumulated several complete 394 core engines as spares. Rather than use a pair of higher flowing aftermarket AFBs or Holley's - which he didn't have, he simply used three stock 394 Olds 4GCs, which he had several of, and made up an aluminum adaptor to fit them on top of the blower! The 4GC carbs are physically, just small enough that f you fabricate a home-brew adapter, three of them, butted together, will just fit on top a 6-71. How cool - and different -would that be??!! :)

This is THE COOLEST FALCON EVER!!!....

My uncle has a 60 or 61 sitting on his farm that I wouldn't mind having...

I'd probably do it like yours, but with either the 394 Olds I have on the shelf, or a 401 AMC (for some reason it seems cool) both would have to be blown of course...

Hey if you don't use that Switch Pitch would you wanna sell it? I've got a 425 Olds that sure could use it...

Again that's a seriously bad ass Falcon, good luck with it, and keep up the insanely good work... I dig it..

You must have only read the first page. The only negatives on here are the "ford in a ford" people. Thanks for having my back though!

This thread is all about POSITIVE.

The intake is a custom job made from an Eelco 6x2 manifold,. The drive setup will be as you see it, except for the tensioner will be set up correctly hahaha. I'm running the rochester 4-jets that are on it. They are the larger Buick ones from a Wildcat, and Dickster 27 is going to help with the rebuild wizardry. The motor was an ex drag boat motor, and is built to the gills. The only things I will need to change are the pistons (they are high comp), and the cam. Right now I'm looking for some blower pistons and not having alot of luck. I'll probably have to have them made (ouch) Know of any good sources?

Thanks! Positive feedback is a great motivator!

Dude this thing is awesome!!! I love that your following the 1966 NHRA rule book and building right. The motor set back that far looks fucking RAD!!!!

  29. What a totally cool project! Look forward to seeing the finished product...

For the FE fanatics, here's one for you. Back in around '65-66 I had a neighbour who lived across the road from me in L.A. who built a '55 Chevy gasser with a well set back 406 in it. Sorry I don't have any photos of the car, like someone posted earlier, it's the essence of what hotrodding is about.

  30. That thing BADIDDILYASS! It nice to see a legitimate gasser. Not just grandmas car with a straight axle slapped under it. This is the REAL MCCOY! I think that Littlefield blower shut up all the Ford purists. Keep it up!
